Which render engines are supported?
Cycles, Eevee and Octane. Split works in Rendered Viewport Shading.
Which Blender versions does it work with?
Blender 4.5 and newer, including Blender 5.x.
Does Split change my compositor or add nodes to my scene?
No. The overlay is drawn directly in the viewport. Your compositor setup stays untouched.
What exactly is stored in a snapshot?
The viewport image, the view it was taken from, and the materials of the scene: which material is assigned to which slot, and the complete node tree of each material, including node groups.
Does Apply also bring back lights, objects or world settings?
No. Apply restores materials only: slot assignments and node trees. Lighting, geometry, object transforms and world settings are not changed.
I clicked Apply and want my latest materials back. Is that possible?
Yes. Store a snapshot before you click Apply, and you can return to it at any time. Restore Original takes you back to the state before the very first Store.
Why do I see a warning that the view has changed?
The snapshot was taken from a different view than the current one, so the two images would not line up. Click Restore View to return to the view of the snapshot.
Can I compare against more than one snapshot?
Yes. Store as many as you like and select any of them in the list. The split line always compares the selected snapshot with the live render.
Can I use the snapshots outside Blender?
Yes. Export Snapshot saves the selected snapshot as PNG, JPEG, TIFF or BMP, and the copy icon puts it on the clipboard.
Does it work from a camera view?
Yes. It works both from a camera view and from a free viewport view.
Does Split slow down my viewport render?
The overlay is a single image drawn over the viewport, so it has no noticeable effect on render speed.
Does the split line show up in my final render?
No. The overlay exists only in the viewport and is never part of a render.
How do I turn it off?
Click Stop Overlay in the Split tab. Your scene stays exactly as it is.
