Inside the Hive | Matthew Muldoon on Blender Products, Community and Creative Tools
Matthew has been reviewing Blender products for Superhive since the very early days of the Blender Market. 🤯 He has personally looked at the vast majority of products on the site, helped onboard new creators, and quietly supported a lot of people toward treating their work like a real business, not just a side upload.
Below is a quick overview of our conversation. If any of this hits close to home for you as a creator, scroll down and watch the full interview in the embedded video. Thanks for reading and watching!
Key takeaways
- Curation is a collaboration, not a penalty. Reviews exist to help your product launch stronger, not to make things harder.
- Most products pass across Matthew’s desk. He has personally seen roughly eighty to ninety percent of the products on Superhive.
- Great products feel “whole”. Strong visuals, branding, documentation, support, and clean files all work together.
- Standing out is harder now. Branding, marketing, and solving real workflow pain points are how you get noticed.
- You do not have to do it alone. The creator of Discord and the support team are there to answer questions and share data-driven insights.
Why does Superhive review your product at all?
One of the first things Matthew talked about is the part that can feel scary for new creators: review and curation. Some marketplaces let you upload anything and call it a day, which could be fine for those looking for that experience. Superhive does not. Almost everything goes through a human review first. For some people, that is jarring. The instinct is, “Why can’t I just upload my stuff?”
The answer is pretty simple. We want your product to land well:
- Do the screenshots and thumbnails actually show the value?
- Is the product description clear and easy to skim?
- Is there documentation so customers are not guessing?
- Does the add on install cleanly and behave like it should?
If something is off, it does not get tossed aside. It gets feedback. Then, when you resubmit, it gets reviewed again. The goal is always the same: to help you put your best possible product in front of the Blender community.
Once we work with you a bit, we can also apply for Trusted Creator Status, which gives you a more straightforward lane to publish on the site. 👍
What great Superhive products tend to have in common
After twelve years of doing this, Matthew can usually tell a lot from a quick glance at a new product. Great ones tend to share a few patterns:
- Clear branding. Thumbnails and logos feel consistent, so customers start to recognize you at first glance.
- Thoughtful documentation. Even simple tools ship with at least a quick guide or FAQ.
- Organized file structure. When someone unzips the download, they are not lost in chaos.
- Responsive support. Creators talk to customers instead of leaving them hanging.
Matthew said it is becoming rare to scroll the index and see a product that looks obviously unfinished. Creators are treating their stores more like small studios, and that shift shows up everywhere, from thumbnails to customer emails. ❤️
Standing out in a growing Blender marketplace
The flip side of all this community growth is obvious: it is harder to stand out than it was five or ten years ago. There are more products, more overlap in categories, and more polished competitors.
That does not mean you are out of luck. It means you need to be a bit more intentional.
- Build a recognizable brand. Aim for a look where someone can see your thumbnail and think, “Oh, that is from this creator”, before they even read your name.
- Solve your own pain points first. Some of the best products are simple quality of life tools that fixed one really annoying thing for the creator who made them.
- Share your work in the open. Posting progress clips or screenshots is both feedback gathering and marketing.
- Do some basic market research. Look at what exists, how it is presented, and where you can be meaningfully different.
You do not need to ship the next giant, year-long fire simulator add-on. A small, focused tool that genuinely saves time can do very well if you present it clearly and get it in front of the right people.
The power of community: Creator Discord and support
Another big thread in the interview was community. Over time, we moved from running conversations internally to letting creators drive more of it in a dedicated Discord.
What came out of that is a space where people ask honest questions, share ideas, troubleshoot launches, and encourage each other. It is not “me versus you” energy. It is “how do we all get better and make this sustainable?”
If you are already a creator on Superhive and you are not in the Discord yet, reach out to support, and we will get you an invite.
And if you ever feel stuck, confused, or unsure what to try next, Matthew repeated the same thing he has been saying for years: just ask. The support inbox is small, human, and there to help you succeed.

We covered a lot more in the full conversation, including:
- How creators are maturing into real business owners
- Why failure is usually just “learning in progress”
- How Blender 5 might shape the next wave of products
- What data we've been able to share one-on-one with creators,
If you are building products, dreaming about it, or just curious how things look behind the curtain at Superhive, the full interview is worth a watch.
FAQ
What should I do before submitting a product for review?
Make sure you have at least five strong images, a clear description, working files, and basic documentation. That avoids most of the back and forth.
What if my product gets declined?
You will get specific feedback. Fix the issues, resubmit, and it will be reviewed again. It is not a one-shot deal.
How do I join the creator Discord?
If you are a Superhive creator, email support and we will send you an invite.
Can I get help figuring out where the opportunities are?
Yes. We do have some data tools and experience we can use to offer guidance when we have bandwidth, and those insights will continue to grow into resources for everyone.
Wherever you are in the process, keep making things, share your work early, and do not be afraid to ask questions. We are building this with you.
