Can I use my own books?
Yes. You'll need to open the texture atlas in the source .blend. Just overlay your own books in Photoshop or something.
How many books are there?
All in all (new + old books) there are 184. These in themselves are also randomized to break any repetition.
Size? How many materials?
In fact there are only 2 sets of materials. 2 for the new books. 2 for the old. The variety comes from a texture atlas instead (only 4 large textures).
Cover copyrights?
The covers ARE NOT from real books. That would create dozens of copyright issues. Instead all covers are AI generated. You can replace these covers with your own (or even with real books - but then you run the legal risk).
