Demo Infracity Generator

Schuaartist in Procedural Generators

Use code "earlybird1" to get the generator for 1$. Valid for the first 10 customers.

For months, I have been working on my own city generator. It started with simple streets, some tunnels and bridges. Over time, I wanted to create cities in the style I imagined and make them as good as I could. My goal was to have a lot of functions that work directly together, and here I am now.

The base of my city generator is the streets. They are always there. You can change their width with smooth transitions from one width to another. I updated the street textures multiple times, and my latest one was created using real images I took myself to give them more variation and detail. The streets can have a green strip in the middle to separate lanes from each other. Furthermore, the streets can go into tunnels and over bridges to allow for more possibilities with different heights. You can create parking lots next to streets by raycasting them with a separate object. The parking lots also include the sidewalk. You can change both their width and height as you like. Next to the sidewalk, you have the choice between a green strip with nature or gravel and concrete (next to buildings), with nature on the sidewalk. Next to the nature, you have some assets, such as traffic signs, bus stops, benches, trash cans, bicycle stands and street lamps. I created most of this first, but then I wanted to have more.

My next goal was buildings. I wanted to have three different types: buildings on specific grounds, like blocks, buildings next to the street, and single-family houses. All three options are implemented. For the building blocks, you can have one bigger building or multiple smaller ones. All of them have different heights, and the assets change per block. The ground levels have different styles, which are chosen randomly. You can have an office building lobby, a café, or a clothing store. All of them are simple models to give the scene depth without negatively affecting performance. The roofs of the buildings are also different. Some of them have two roofs and two building parts, while some of them don't.

The second type is buildings next to the street. These buildings are intended to be residential blocks, and therefore their base structure is different. On the ground floor, you either have a café or the entrance to the building. Outside the café, there are some basic tables and chairs as well as an awning. The entrances are connected to the sidewalk via stairs, which have different heights and orientations for more variation. To give them more depth, the buildings randomly have some parts extruded and have simple 3D rooms, which are performance-friendly but give the buildings more life.

The third type of buildings I wanted were single-family houses. They are also very different from the other types of buildings. They have driveways and garages for cars. They also have different entrances and structures. Their heights change randomly, and they can be straight or L-shaped in both directions. Those are all the types of buildings the city generator currently includes.

With the buildings and streets, I had the base for a city. But I wanted more. I thought of railways, and now they are here. I wanted them to be in the middle of the street with some nature around them. Moreover, I wanted train stations, which are spawned throughout a distance, and the same is the case for overhead lines. In real life, trains are not always on the street; they can go below the streets, and you can also do that with a smooth transition. To get your railway across an intersection, I added the option for it to go across the intersection. If you don't want your railway to be connected to the streets, you can handle it individually. If you need it to cross a road, that's possible as well. Simply overlap the street and the railway to create an intersection between the two.

To bring more life to cities, trains, cars and people are very important. I worked on a traffic system, but as it is a demo, it isn't finished yet, as I want it to interact with everything properly. You can use it, but some things may not work as intended. Cars are very stable, though. They stop at intersections if they have to and then start driving when they are allowed to. Cars can change lanes randomly but can also just drive forward. At intersections, they wait for each other based on priorities, just as in real life.

People also work. They can walk on the sidewalk, but they don't have animations yet and have issues with crossing roads. Again, it is a demo, and I will work on that. I'm also working on trains, which aren't yet implemented and connected with the cars and people. I have worked on making them stop at train stations, and the other implementations will follow.

Away from cities, I worked on highways, which are independent from the city. They have the same base as the streets, such as different widths, green strips, tunnels and bridges. But for this specific preset, they also have guardrails and signs showing where each lane goes, with a choice between German-style and American-style signs. My goal wasn't to have buildings alongside them because I didn't want them to be next to the highway, which is why they only use the street system.

The whole street generator works in a pretty simple way. You just use edges for streets, intersections, buildings and railways. To identify which is which, you simply assign them to vertex groups, which control most of the settings.

As I said multiple times, this is a demo. Not everything is finished, and some things will come later, but for now, a lot is already done and usable. My goal is to get feedback. I want to know what you like, what you don't like and what you would like to be added. I'm happy to receive any kind of feedback, including bug reports, questions if you aren't sure how to use the system correctly, or if you simply need some help.

Therefore, I wanted to publish a demo. The price for people who buy it now won't change in the future, so you don't have to buy it more than once. However, the price will be increased once it is no longer a demo. I hope you can help me with this project and make it the best possible!
