Distribute N Points On Faces Or In Volume (Node Groups)

Did you ever use "Distribute Points On Faces" or "Distribute Points In Volume" in Geometry Nodes ? Did you then wonder why you can't distribute just 5 or 10 or 3 points, instead of using a realtive density ? ... Here comes "Distribute N Points" in handy... The bundle of two node groups allows you to distribute points on faces or in a volume with just an exact amount of points.

Node Group: Distribute N Points

Provides a wrapper node group, which get's a mesh-geometry and let's you distribute points on faces and in volume, with density and a max points count/amount.

Density

For performance optimization it let's you define a base density of locations for points. The same as "Density" on "Distribute Points On Faces" and "Distribute Points In Volume".

Max Points Count

Actually defines the exact amount of points to distribute from the "Density"-locations.

If 0, all "Density"-location will be used for distribution.

if >0, the amount of points will be distributed.

The smallest value of "Density" and "Max Points Count" will be used for distribution.

Node Group: Extract Random Points

Used by "Distribute N Points" and extracts randomly the amount of "Count"-points from your provided "Points"-geometry. Can be used separately.

Node Group: Point Count From Geometry

Used by "Extract Random Points", but is useful to simply and quickly get the point count from your provided geometry.

Including

 * Three Geomtery Nodes node groups: "Distribute N Points", "Extract Random Points" and "Point Count From Geometry" all prefixed with "DNP".

Usage

Download and extract .zip-file.

* Import/Append (F4) node groups from .blend-file.

* Node groups are marked as assets. Copy extracted .blend-file to your asset library directory to import via the Blender's asset browser, using prefix "DNP" for a better discovery.
