Going from Max to Blender I still miss some small things here and there, but the Slice modifier has been the big one. And lo and behold some kind soul has made one for Blender, he even mentions the Max modifier as an example. Get this if you know it from Max and if not get it anyway, this is a must both in animation and modeling alike..

I've been looking for a product like this for a while, but wasn't sure if it would do what I wanted, and it does everything I'm after almost perfectly.
I wanted to reveal and cut through multiple parts of a lidar scan where different scans were nested inside each other.
First, it works perfectly with lidar so far.
Second, and here's the catch and a workaround. I've got multiple separate layers of lidar data. It looks like you the slicer can only work with one object or layer of data. But there is a workaround.
Add a slicer for each object you're working with. Set your main slicer where you want to start and size it accordingly. Then with your second slicer go to the constraints section of blender and add a "copy rotation" and "copy location" and make those attach to your main slicer.
Now you can animate multiple layers by controlling one slicer.

If there is a way to make one slicer work with multiple objects, that would be the only thing I could really see improving this.
