Gradient Skies
Can I Use Gradient Skies Together With an HDRI?
Yes, but it requires manual node editing.
After applying the gradient sky, you can add an Environment Texture node and combine it with the generated setup using Mix nodes and Light Path nodes.
This allows you to use the gradient for the visible background while using the HDRI for reflections and lighting.
Does Gradient Skies Affect Scene Lighting?
Yes.
The World background contributes lighting to the scene when World lighting is enabled in Blender.
The Strength setting controls the intensity of that lighting.
Set Strength to 0 if you want the sky visible only as a background without affecting scene illumination.
Can I Animate the Sky?
The addon panel values themselves cannot currently be keyframed.
However, after applying the sky, you can animate the generated nodes manually inside the World Shader Editor.
Right-click any value such as Color Ramp colors or Background Strength and select:
Physical Sky Blend Is Not Visible
Ensure that Sky Mix is set above 0.
At 0.0, the physical sky contributes nothing to the final result.
For the strongest visible effect, use the Nishita sky model.
Real-time Update Is Slowing Down My Viewport
Disable Real-time Update from the addon panel.
After making all adjustments, click Apply Gradient Sky once to rebuild the shader.
This reduces repeated node rebuilds during rapid editing.
Can I Add More Than Three Color Stops?
Not directly from the addon panel in this version.
However, after applying the sky, you can manually edit the Color Ramp node inside the World Shader Editor and add as many color stops as needed.
These manual edits remain untouched unless you apply a preset or rebuild the sky again.
What Does Horizon Level Actually Do?
Horizon Level shifts the midpoint of the gradient vertically.
A value of 0 places the horizon exactly in the center.
Positive values move the horizon upward, exposing more ground color.
Negative values move the horizon downward, exposing more sky color.
Will the Sky Still Work Without the Addon Installed?
Yes.
Gradient Skies creates only standard built-in Blender nodes inside the World shader.
Once applied, the setup becomes part of the .blend file and works normally on any Blender 4.0+ installation, even if the addon is not installed.
A Preset Replaced My Existing World Shader
Yes, applying a preset rebuilds the World node tree.
You can immediately undo the action using:
Ctrl + Z
If you want to preserve a custom World setup, save it as a separate World datablock before applying Gradient Skies.
My Sky Is Not Showing in the Viewport
Open the Viewport Shading popover using the sphere icon in the top-right corner of the 3D Viewport.
Make sure World is enabled.
If World shading is disabled, the background will not appear regardless of the active World shader setup.
Does Gradient Skies work with Cycles and EEVEE?
Yes.
Gradient Skies uses only standard Blender World shader nodes, making it fully compatible with both Cycles and EEVEE / EEVEE Next.
Supports Blender 5.1?
Yes!
