Keychain & Name Tag Maker

Sonneblom Digitaal in Addons

Version 1.0.0 · Blender 4.2 or newer · tested on 4.2 LTS and 5.1

The fastest way to make personalised keychains, bag tags and name plates to sell or gift. Type the text, pick raised or engraved letters and a hole position, and you get one watertight mesh sized in millimetres, ready to export.

1. Install

The download contains two files. Use the one that matches how you install add-ons:

  • keychain_maker-1.0.0.zip (Blender extension, recommended): in Blender go to Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions, open the drop-down arrow at the top right, choose Install from Disk… and pick the zip. Do not unzip it.
  • keychain_maker-1.0.0-legacy.zip (classic add-on folder): Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, drop-down arrow, Install from Disk…. Use this one if you manage add-ons as folders.

Make sure it is enabled, then in the 3D Viewport press N and open the Keychain tab. It has no extra dependencies.

2. How to use it

  1. Type your Text and pick Raised or Engraved.
  2. Optionally choose a font file (.ttf/.otf); otherwise Blender's built-in font is used.
  3. Set letter height, plate thickness, border, corner radius, and where the key ring hole goes (left, top, or none for a name tag).
  4. Click Make keychain. A single mesh object is created at the 3D cursor, and its size in mm is shown in the status bar.
  5. Export it as STL or 3MF and slice.

3. Settings

Setting Default What it does
Model units 1 unit = 1 mm How big one Blender unit is.
Letter height mm 10
Text height/depth mm 1.6 How far raised text stands up or engraved text goes in.
Plate thickness mm 2.4
Border mm 3 Plate margin around the text.
Corner radius mm 3
Key ring hole Left Left, Top or None.
Hole Ø mm / Ring wall mm 4.5 / 2.5 Size and strength of the ring loop.

Model units: STL files have no units and are almost always in millimetres, while Blender's default scene counts 1 unit as 1 metre. Set Model units to 1 unit = 1 mm for imported STLs, or leave it on Scene to follow Scene > Units.

4. Limits

Very thin or decorative fonts at tiny sizes can be hard to print; keep letters 6 mm or taller for FDM.

5. Support and licence

Message us through Superhive with what happened (and the model, if you can) and we will help.

Keychain & Name Tag Maker is released under the GNU General Public License v3 or later (GPL-3.0-or-later), like other Blender add-ons. You may use it commercially.
