I gave this tool a shot for a client today, they claimed it can compete with premium tools that have been developed for 5 years or so, so gave it a shot, I was quite skeptical from the get go, but why not. A few hours (wasted) later, my skepticism was confirmed.. I stumbled into a lot of issues and couldn’t meet the client deadline, the scatter didn’t render properly, the optimization settings lagged my computer (so the very purpose of the feature is useless), I encountered errors messages when doing obvious actions, was the tool tested before being published? I wasn’t aware I was a beta tester..

And it keeps on going.. the range of proposed settings are very poor, it seems that you can spend one little afternoon recreating everything on geometry node.. Why would I bother using such tool if I can rebuild everything from scratch in only a few hours? Cherry on top, the creator didn’t even use a blender artwork made with the tool for the main logo and in the promotions, it looks like it’s a stock image or even an AI generated photo? That’s called false advertisement! And finally I discovered that the tool is available for free on GitHub (https://github.com/GitMay3D/OpenScatter) so I could’ve test my disappointment without taking my credit card out of my wallet.

Hi. Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that you've been having issues with OpenScatter. I had spent a lot of time testing the addon before release, but users will always discover things that I was unable to find during my testing, which is why I'm always appreciative of feedback.

I have seen other users report that the convex hull optimization doesn't optimize it very well, which is why I've recently added a feature where you can select from a list of low poly objects to represent your scatter system instances. This should provide a more optimized and stable system.

Now, I don't think I ever said that OpenScatter can compete with industry standard tools. Addons that have been in development for years and have been worked on by professional teams, will always be better than what a single person can create for free. I'm constantly working on OpenScatter and trying to improve it as much as i can, but I can't compete with companies with more funding, nor am I trying to do so.

I understand you're having technical issues with it as well, so I just want to let you know that you are more than welcome to report any problems on the 'issues' page on my github repository, and I'll do everything I can to help you out.

I'm really sorry that you had such a negative experience with OpenScatter. I'll do everything I can to help you, and improve the addon.

      Regards,
      Maya

Just excellent in every possible way. Love how the UI is laid out and the scatter workflow is the best I've seen so far among similar extensions. Not to mention the performance-improving optimization features.
