Physics Dropper

Elin in Modeling

User Manual

Drop selected objects into rigid body or cloth physics in one click, tweak, then bake to keyframes.

Where it lives: 3D Viewport → press N → PhyDrop tab.

Core Workflow (start here)

  1. Select one or more mesh objects.
  2. Pick a mode: Rigidbody or Cloth (top toggle).
  3. Press Drop (or V). Simulation starts playing.
  4. Watch it settle. Scrub or Pause/Play as needed.
  5. Press Apply (or Shift+V) to freeze the result, or Reset to bail out.
The Drop button is greyed out until a mesh is selected.

Buttons

  • Rigidbody / Cloth — choose simulation type (before dropping).
  • Drop — apply physics to selection and start the sim.
  • Apply — finalize the sim at the current frame, keep the result.
  • Reset — remove all physics, revert the scene.
  • Bake to Keyframes — convert sim (up to current frame) to keyframes. Rigidbody only.
  • Exit Drop Mode — leave editing but keep the sim running.
  • Pause/Play Simulation — toggle playback.

Hotkeys

  • V — Drop
  • Shift+V — Apply
  • F — Force Mode (while sim running)

All customizable in Preferences → Add-ons → Physics Dropper.

Rigidbody Mode

Two sub-panels (collapsed by default) — edit before dropping.

Active Settings (objects that move / fall)

  • Shape — collision shape: Convex Hull, Mesh, Box, Sphere, Capsule, Cylinder, Cone, Compound.
  • Mass, Friction, Bounciness, Margin.
  • Damping Translation / Rotation.
  • Use Proxy for Highpoly — auto voxel/decimate proxy for heavy meshes (Voxel Size / Decimate Rate).

Passive Settings (static colliders — floors, walls)

  • Shape, Friction, Bounciness, Margin, proxy option.

World Settings (global sim)

  • Start / End Frame, Substeps Per Frame, Solver Iterations, Split Impulse.
Objects pass through each other → raise Solver Iterations / Substeps. Jitter → enable Split Impulse.

Cloth Mode

Pick a Preset first — Cotton, Denim, Leather, Rubber, Silk — then refine in the sub-panels:

  • Stiffness — Tension, Compression, Shear, Bending.
  • Damping — same four channels.
  • Internal Spring (toggle in header) — soft-body volume.
  • Pressure (toggle) — inflatables (balloons, cushions).
  • Self Collision (toggle) — Friction, Distance, Impulse Clamping.
  • Advanced Cloth Settings — Quality Steps, Collision Quality/Distance/Clamping, Mass, Air Viscosity.
  • World Collision Settings — Simulation Length, Damping, Outer/Inner Thickness, Friction, Collider Fatten, proxy option.

Force Fields (during simulation)

  • Add Simple Force — static force field button.
  • Force Mode (F) — interactive:
    • Move mouse to position the force in 3D.
    • Mouse wheel to scale distance.
    • Hold Ctrl to snap to the surface under the cursor.
  • Sliders: Strength (−1000…1000), Flow (converts to air flow, good for cloth), Distance.

Earthquake (during simulation)

Shakes all active physics objects.

  • Earthquake slider — intensity 0–100%.
  • X / Y / Z toggles — which axes shake.

Non-destructive: driven by F-curve noise modifiers, editable in the Graph Editor.

Baking

Rigidbody only. Play to the frame you want, pause, then press Bake to Keyframes. The sim becomes plain keyframes (faster playback/render, editable). Only bakes up to the current frame; preserves earthquake and force effects.
