Quetzalcoatlus Rigged

Nolan Reid in Creatures

Overview This product is a highly detailed, rigged Quetzalcoatlus (pterosaur) 3D model created in Blender. It features clean quad-based topology, full IK/FK rigging with custom controllers, particle-based hair/fur for realistic coverage, dual UV-mapped PBR materials (separate for body skin and eyes), and shape-key driven controls for blinking and sniffing. Designed primarily for animation, cinematic rendering, VFX, paleo-art, scientific visualization, and creature work. No Multi-Res or subdivision modifiers are used — detail comes from sculpting, normals, and particle hair.

Included Files

  • Native .blend file (full Blender setup)
    • Complete rig with IK/FK switching
    • Custom bone controllers
    • Particle hair system
    • Shape keys (blinking, sniffing)
    • PBR texture set (body skin + eyes)
    • Textures are included in the package (high-resolution PBR maps: diffuse/albedo, normal, roughness, etc.).

Usage

  • In Blender: Open the .blend file. The rig is ready for posing and animation — use IK/FK switches and custom controllers. Particle hair is pre-configured (adjust density/render settings as needed). Shape keys control facial micro-movements. Optimized for Cycles and Eevee rendering.
  • Animation: Rig supports full-body posing, wing folding/unfolding, flight/ground poses. No pre-made animation cycles included — fully customizable for your pipeline.
  • Other software / engines: Export FBX for Maya, 3ds Max, Unity, Unreal, etc. Reassign textures and materials if needed. Particle hair is Blender-specific and will not export automatically — recreate using hair cards, groom plugins, or engine hair systems (e.g., Unreal Groom, Unity Hair). Shape keys may transfer as morph targets in FBX.

Requirements / Compatibility

  • Created in recent Blender version (tested in Blender 4.x recommended).
  • Moderate system specs sufficient (~58k polygons/verts; no extreme high-poly sculpt layers).
  • GPU recommended for particle hair rendering and viewport performance.

Notes

  • Polygons: 57,820 | Vertices: 57,936 (quads only).
  • No pre-baked animations or cycles included to maximize flexibility.
  • Particle hair provides realistic fuzz/feathering but requires recreation outside Blender for exports.
  • Dual materials/UVs: one set for body, one for eyes — allows detailed texturing.
