Every text object will get a new panel, in which you can enable the text animation by clicking "Enable text animation".

The text of the object will then be copied in "Full text". If you disable the checkbox, the contents of "Full text" will be copied back to the text object.

The start position and display length can be keyframed as you know it but pressing I when hovering over the value.
