Updated for Blender 5.2 LTS
SDFusion now includes two workflows, both tested with Blender 5.2.2 LTS:
-
SDFusion 1.7.4 (
SDFusion_1_7_4.zip) — the flexible modifier-based workflow. -
SDFusion SDF 1.0.2 (
SDFusion_SDF_1_0_2.zip) — the Geometry Nodes workflow using Blender's native SDF nodes.
This update adds Blender 5.2 Geometry Nodes modifier API compatibility, including working Reset operations and live node controls.
SDFusion | Non-Destructive Boolean Modeling with an SDF-Like Workflow
Documentation: https://sdfusion-blender-addon.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
What is SDFusion?
SDFusion is a Blender add-on for building and refining complex shapes with a fast, non-destructive Boolean workflow. It organizes cutters into clearly named ADD and SUB collections, creates the required modifier or Geometry Nodes setup automatically, and keeps the original object protected while you work.
The download includes two editions. Choose the modifier edition for flexible layer expansion and a familiar Boolean stack, or the native SDF edition for a five-layer Geometry Nodes setup powered by Blender's SDF nodes.
Choose Your Workflow
SDFusion 1.7.4 — Modifier Edition
- Creates an ordered stack of collection-based Boolean modifiers.
- Adds Geometry Nodes remeshing and smoothing controls after the Boolean stack.
- Starts with
ADD-1,SUB-1,ADD-2, andSUB-2. - Supports additional ADD/SUB layers through the Add Layer command.
- Includes optional UV Geometry Nodes tools.
SDFusion SDF 1.0.2 — Native SDF / Geometry Nodes Edition
- Uses Blender's native SDF nodes inside a Geometry Nodes modifier.
- Creates five ready-to-use ADD/SUB layer pairs.
- Automatically connects each layer collection to its labeled collection input.
- Includes hidden placeholder objects required by the current node setup.
- Provides the same layer-assignment and finalization workflow in a separate SDFusionNode panel.
Note: The two editions are separate add-ons and use separate panels, working collections, and modifier names. Install the edition you want to test, or install both if you want access to both workflows.
Key Features
-
One-Click Setup
Select a mesh and press Reset to create a protected original, a working copy, the required collections, and the complete modifier or node setup. -
Intuitive Layer Management
Move cutters between clearly named collections such asADD-1andSUB-1directly from the SDFusion sidebar. -
Live Controls
Adjust the exposed Geometry Nodes inputs from the sidebar and preview the result immediately. -
Non-Destructive Iteration
The selected source object is preserved in a cutter collection while SDFusion creates a separate working object. -
Transform Helpers
Rotate cutters by common angles, move individual axes to the world origin, or align them to the 3D cursor. -
Project Finalization
Apply the generated modifiers and clean up temporary objects and collections when the model is ready. -
Asset Library Integration
Install or update a compatible cutter asset ZIP from the add-on preferences and register it as a Blender Asset Library.
Compatibility
- Recommended and tested: Blender 5.2.2 LTS
- Operating systems: Any platform supported by Blender; the add-ons contain Python and Blender data files with no platform-specific binaries.
- Important: Blender 5.2 changed the public Geometry Nodes modifier input API. Use SDFusion 1.7.4 or SDFusion SDF 1.0.2 with Blender 5.2.
Installation
- Download
SDFusion_1_7_4.zip,SDFusion_SDF_1_0_2.zip, or both. - In Blender, open Edit > Preferences > Extensions.
- Open the menu in the upper-right corner and choose Install from Disk.
- Select the ZIP file without extracting it.
- Enable the extension if Blender does not enable it automatically.
- Open the 3D View sidebar with the N key and select the SDFusion or SDFusionNode tab.
Quick Start
- Select a mesh object.
- Press Reset Booleans & Collections in the modifier edition, or Reset GeoNode Setup in the native SDF edition.
- Select cutter objects and assign them to ADD or SUB layers from the Layer Assignment section.
- Adjust the live controls until the shape is ready.
- Use Apply All to finalize or Cleanup All to remove the generated setup.
For more detailed instructions, see the official documentation.
[Bonus Tool Included] Collection Object Walker
Previewing Boolean cutters has never been this smooth.
Collection Object Walker is an auxiliary add-on for cycling through objects in a collection one at a time. It helps you compare overlapping cutter shapes without repeatedly changing visibility in the Outliner.
- Instant Cycling: Switch between cutter shapes with Previous and Next controls.
- Batch Display Management: Change every object in a collection to Wireframe or Bounds display.
- Designed for SDFusion: Preview alternative cutters, choose a shape, and assign it to an SDFusion layer.

Acknowledgements
The development of SDFusion was greatly inspired by pioneering add-ons such as Boolean Quick Remesh (BQR) and Simply Concept. In honour of the intuitive Boolean workflows demonstrated by these tools, SDFusion explores a different approach using Blender's collection system to keep layer-based modeling simple and organized. We sincerely thank their creators for their work.
