ValueMarks
What does ValueMarks do?
ValueMarks saves frequently used numbers in supported Blender fields. Recall them through the right-click menu, choose them with the Preset Slider, or step between them with Shift+Alt+Wheel. Examples include Bevel Segments, material Roughness, and individual transform components.
Which Blender versions and operating systems are supported?
Minimum Blender version: 4.2.0. Tested on Windows with Blender 4.2.23, 4.3.2, 4.4.3, 4.5.11, 5.0.1, 5.1.2, and 5.2.1. Hover shortcuts do not work in Blender 4.3.x; use the right-click menu instead. macOS testing is not complete. Linux and Blender versions outside this range have not been tested.
Which ZIP should I install?
If your download is ValueMarks-1.0.0.zip, extract that outer package first. In Blender, open Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions, choose Install from Disk in the upper-right menu, and select the inner valuemarks-1.0.0.zip without extracting it. Enable ValueMarks under Preferences > Add-ons if needed. Keep the supplied PDFs outside the Extension ZIP.
Can I use it with every Blender field?
It supports editable integer and decimal fields, including lengths, angles, percentages, numeric node and Geometry Nodes inputs, custom number fields, and individual transform components. It saves one number at a time. Colors, Quaternion/Axis Angle rotation, direction/matrix values, checkboxes, text, and drop-down choices are unsupported. Read-only, driven, linked, and overridden fields are unavailable. Number fields in Blender Preferences, including add-on settings, are also unsupported.
Why is there no Value Presets menu?
Make sure ValueMarks is enabled and right-click the number itself, rather than its label. Test Bevel Segments or Location X. If those work, check whether the original field is supported and editable.
Why do the shortcuts do nothing?
Before pressing the shortcut, place the pointer over the number itself and save at least one preset for that field. Check for key conflicts in ValueMarks Preferences. Blender 4.3.x does not support the hover shortcuts; use Preset Slider... or the preset list in the right-click menu.
Can I change the shortcuts?
Yes. Open Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > ValueMarks. Save Blender Preferences if automatic preference saving is off. For wheel navigation, Shift+Alt+Wheel is recommended. Avoid Ctrl combinations: Blender handles them before ValueMarks. Ctrl still disables snapping inside the Preset Slider.
Do I need presets before I can use the slider?
The right-click menu can open Preset Slider... without saved presets. Both hover shortcuts require at least one preset for that field. With saved presets, the slider shows value marks and snaps to nearby values; hold Ctrl for free adjustment. Esc or right-click cancels and restores the original value.
Does the mouse wheel follow my custom preset order?
No. Wheel Up/Down selects the next higher/lower value in numeric order and stops at the ends. Rearranging presets changes list order, but does not change wheel navigation.
Can I undo an applied preset?
Applied values normally support Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z. One confirmed slider change or one wheel step is one undo action. Blender view settings, such as the 3D View's Focal Length, are outside Blender's undo system. Saving, renaming, editing, deleting, and rearranging presets cannot be undone.
Are presets saved inside each .blend file?
No. Presets are stored separately and shared across files for the same kind of field within the same ValueMarks saved-data folder. Bevel Width and Roughness have separate lists, as do X, Y, and Z. Node inputs share by node type and input; Geometry Nodes inputs share by node group and input. Different Blender versions or profiles may use different folders.
How do I back up or move my presets?
Close all Blender windows using the saved-data folder, then copy presets.json from ValueMarks' Extension user folder to a safe location. Copy settings.json too to preserve the menu choice. To restore, keep a copy of existing files and replace them with the backup while Blender is closed. Restart Blender afterward. Version 1.0.0 has no Import or Export buttons; see Documentation for the standard Windows folder location.
Will uninstalling ValueMarks delete my presets?
Yes. Uninstalling deletes the saved presets and menu setting, so back up first. Disabling and re-enabling ValueMarks preserves them. A normal Extension update keeps saved data, but back up before updating or changing Blender versions.
Why did the + button add a different number?
The + button adds the current field value when it is not already saved. If it is saved, ValueMarks generates an unused value within the field's range when possible. You can edit that number afterward. If no value fits, it shows a message. Each list can hold up to 100 presets, and names can contain up to 64 characters.
Does applying a preset insert a keyframe?
No. Applying a preset changes the field value but does not insert a keyframe. Insert or update the keyframe yourself to include the change in your animation. Driven fields are unavailable.
Can I reuse presets in files with different units?
Yes, but check the resulting value. Blender's current unit settings control the display; changing those settings does not convert or rescale saved values.
What should I do if the preset file cannot be read?
Keep a copy of the file first. Restore a working backup, or choose Reset Presets File and confirm. Reset starts an empty list and preserves the unreadable file as a timestamped backup, for example presets.corrupt-20261005-123456.json. It does not repair the file. A new presets.json is written when you next save a preset.
Is Simple Pie Menu required?
No. ValueMarks works on its own. Dedicated Simple Pie Menu integration and direct preset sharing between the two products are not included in version 1.0.0.
Where can I get help and manuals?
The download includes Quick_Start.pdf and User_Manual.pdf; the Documentation tab also provides installation and usage instructions. Contact Virtual Rain through the Superhive product page or email [email protected]. Include your Blender/ValueMarks versions, operating system, target field, steps to reproduce, and the exact message or a screenshot. Remove personal information before sharing logs or images. Support is available while the product is published; updates are made when bugs or feature requests arise. The interface and documentation are English only.
