I've grabbed a couple of the procedural add-ons from these folks and (honestly) I cannot wait to see what they come out with next .. As a matter of fact, put me on your testers list .. please! I'm an environment artist, this has me doing many things, not just terrains and trees. I find myself in this role coming from over a decade of working on film sets where practical effects (atmospheric smoke, fog, god-rays etc) are the bread-and-butter of a good shot. So once I get the terrain just right, the next thing I do, yup atmospheric volumes. Full disclosure, there are two tools I count on for this part of the work but Volumetrics Pro is step one, it sets the stage for everything else when it comes to setting the scene ... I use it to test my lighting indoors and out; I use it to judge focal length, exposure and aperture for my cameras; I even played around a bit and created 3D fog cards on a separate render layer to run through Nuke just to see if broke up the sunset better over distance than 2D ones, spoiler you better @$%&!# well believe it did!
My machine is a bit of a beast, even with heavy scenes my render times don't lag much, but I'm not a hugely patient person when I'm just looking to see a render to judge density and transmission, ya know .. not an issue with this add-on ... with a couple of full atmospheric volumes, 8x 3D fog card banks, Procedural Clouds (also by this dev), a full sky with early night stars, full moon and the lighting from emissions coming from candles, fireplaces, placed lighting scrims and the list goes one ... well, usually I should hit render at night, go watch Ancient Aliens and come check what it looks like in the morning. This set up was a test for compositing and look-dev and it gave me just enough time to microwave some leftovers and make a fresh cuppa coffee. I barely hear the fans in my case going.
So yeah. Just buy the add-on. Get the Procedural Clouds and Particles add-ons while you're in a buying mood. 14/10.
Here is my offical review: 10/10 product that is a masterclass in procedural clouds. The usibility form the N-panel, the quality of the clouds and skies, and the vast options of cloud skies to choose from is unmatched. I said it. UNMATCHED. I normally don't compare products on the market by name, but I have to in this case to prove my point. Volumetrics Pro is the BEST procedural cloud add-on on Blender. Better than:
Pure Sky Pro
True Sky VFX
Why: For all reasons I articulated in my opening, and the fact that these VBD's aren't ram heavy but look insanely detailed and beautiful. Pure Sky Pro has backwards updates (meaning features are a mess and the product is in limbo) True Sky VFX is ram heavy, has horrible user navigation, and barely functioned on my Nvidia 4090 w/64gb. Unaccetable. Volumetrics Pro will be my FINAL procedural add-on update, and I am relieved, beceuase its an excellent add-on, I just wish i hadnt waisted so much time, money and stress along the way before finding Volumetrics Pro. Please keep this add-on going for life. We needed this badly. Excellent work, all.
