Superhive October Blend Fest BONUS DAY! Spooky Assets!

It seems we just can't stop celebrating 23 years of open source Blender! The Superhive October Blend Fest is back for just one more day. You might say that it's haunting the halls here at Superhive, like a friendly ghost.

OK, bad puns aside, today's Halloween and we wanted to keep the energy going from the Blend Fest for the last day of October. So I wanted to shine a spotlight on the spooky stuff here at Superhive to get you excited for the holiday. Skeletons, monsters, and zombies are common themes among Blender Creators and their products here and because of the holiday, it makes sense to show off some of the cool things that are available.

Them bones!

If you search for skeleton on Superhive, you're going to find some great reference models, base meshes, and full-on characters. And it's not just human skeletons you'll find, but also a whole slew of other creatures. There are your standard animal skeletons, but there are also dinosaur skeletons... and even skeletons for demons, monsters, and at least one alien!

Among all of those bones, you'll also likely come across Fredegund, from jpbouza. Fredegund is a fully rigged skeleton, using the popular BlenRig rigging system. So not only is an accurate anatomical reference, but it can easily be posed and animated in Blender for whatever creepy project you have in mind!

Scary pumpkin spice

As we get to the end of the year and the colder months in the Northern Hemisphere, there always seems to be this thing about "pumpkin spice season." But everyone seems to forget that in order to have pumpkin spice, you need to sacrifice a bunch of pumpkins. Judging from what you can find when you search for halloween pumpkins here, those chunky orange gourds aren't particularly pleased with this arrangement.

Now, granted, some of them are fairly cute things, like these ones from CGZen. But there are some that are just downright terrifying, like the Halloween Pumpkin Monster from HuyKhoi2407 and Hartmann's Pumpkinhead. These assets would definitely keep me away from the pumpkin spice. Nutmeg's not a Halloween thing, is it?

Spooky... add-ons?

You might be surprised that if you search for spooky or halloween, but just in the Add-ons category here on Superhive, there are actually a few products that show up, including Ghost Collections from Max Miles, which helps you more easily animate the visibility of your Blender Collections, and Blender Bits' Web It!, a procedural web generator.

But there's another one that just got released today from Spencer Magnusson, called Default Cube: The Game. This is a fun an unique Blender add-on where everyone's favorite hexahedron will "haunt" your Blender session if you delete it at the beginning. How's that for a spooky tool?

Happy Halloween!

I'll wrap this up (like a mummy) by pointing out that we actually have a dedicated tag just for halloween-related products. There are 431 different products listed in there! And don't even get me started on the half-dozen-or-so tags that are related to zombies and the undead. A person might just get the impression that the Blender community really likes this holiday... or at least this holiday inspires a bunch of really cool stuff to make in Blender.

Whatever the case may be, we love this community and we'll find ways to celebrate it every way we can. And maybe one of these products will help you the next time you need to make something spooky, whether it's for Halloween or something completely different!

Have fun!
