Will Blender freeze during processing?
No. The AI runs in a separate background process, so Blender remains responsive.
You may notice a brief pause when the enhanced images are packed into the .blend file.
Does it use my GPU?
The add-on works on the CPU by default.
If a CUDA-compatible NVIDIA GPU is available with the required CUDA toolkit installed, GPU acceleration is enabled automatically. No additional configuration is required
How much larger are the enhanced textures?
Textures are upscaled by 4× in each dimension.
Examples:
512×512 → 2048×2048
1024×1024 → 4096×4096
Will my original textures be modified?
No. Enhanced textures are created as new image datablocks with _grey appended to the original name. Your source images remain unchanged.
Do I need an internet connection after setup?
No. Once the dependencies are installed, everything runs completely offline. The Real-ESRGAN model is included with the add-on.
