Animal Rigger Pro helps you build an animation rig for a standing quadruped mesh. Choose a body plan, place anatomical landmarks with a guided tool, generate the rig, then bind and refine it in Blender. It gives you an anatomy-based starting point without placing every joint and setting up every control by hand.
Launch price: $29
What you can do with it
Use Animal Rigger Pro for animation tests, short films, game characters, previs, or reusable character assets. The rig is generated in Blender, where you can inspect the result and continue working on your character.
Check and prepare a mesh
Preflight reports common issues such as loose geometry, duplicate vertices, non-manifold areas, unapplied transforms, and unsuitable rest poses. It checks scale and helps orient the animal before marking. Symmetry, floor level, and foot contacts are detected to give the rig a consistent starting point. Safe mesh fixes are available where appropriate.
Mark the animal's anatomy
Place landmarks in a guided order, mostly from an aligned side view. Midline points can snap to the symmetry plane, and matching points can be mirrored across the body. Placement is checked as you work, and you can review or adjust the result before generating. Species proportions can help fill in some unmarked joints.
Build the legs and body
Choose a digitigrade leg for a pawed animal or an unguligrade leg for a horse. The rig includes leg and foot controls, toe chains, and the main body structure for the pelvis, scapula, spine, neck, and tail. The generated armature is organized into reference, control, mechanism, and deform layers.
Bind and refine weights
Generate body weights, smooth transitions across the surface, and inspect problem areas. Robust binding options help with difficult mesh regions and separate islands. Teeth, eyes, claws, and other small parts can use dedicated binding rules.
Rebuild without starting over
Change landmarks and review the proposed rig updates before rebuilding. The build plan identifies what will change. The rebuild system is designed to preserve animation actions, weight edits, and user constraints when possible.
Keep working in Blender
Your mesh and rig stay in the Blender scene, ready for inspection, posing, and further character work. The extension runs locally, with no cloud processing or runtime downloads.

Current animal support
Animal Rigger Pro currently focuses on standing quadrupeds:
- Dog and cat style digitigrade legs
- Horse style unguligrade legs and hooves
- Blender 5.1 or newer
More animals are planned
Once we reach 10 sales, we will start adding more animal types. Tell us which animals you need, and we will use your requests to help decide what comes next. Birds are on the roadmap too.
In development: Face controls and advanced deformation work are still being refined. Cloven feet, birds, and other animal types are planned additions, not part of the current supported set.
