Animal Rigger Pro
Which Blender version and operating systems are supported?
Blender 5.1 or newer is required. Version 0.1 was tested on Blender 5.2.2 LTS on macOS. Windows and Linux are expected to work, but have not yet been tested for this release.
Can I export to a game engine?
Yes. Export options include FBX for Unreal, FBX for Unity Generic, and glTF for Godot and other glTF tools. Unity Humanoid and VRM are not supported for quadruped rigs.
Do animators need Animal Rigger Pro installed?
No. The generated rig uses Blender armatures and can be opened and animated without the add-on. The add-on is needed to mark, build, or update the rig.
Can I change the rig after I start animating?
Yes. Adjust landmarks and rebuild. The rebuild plan shows what will change, and the add-on is designed to preserve animation, painted weights, and settings.
Does my animal need to be standing?
Yes. The current workflow expects a standing quadruped rest pose. Sitting and lying meshes are not supported. The mesh check explains common issues and offers fixes for many of them.
Which animals can I rig?
Version 0.1 supports pawed quadrupeds, including dogs, wolves, foxes, cats, and big cats. It also supports single-hoofed quadrupeds, including horses, ponies, donkeys, mules, and zebras. For a similar animal, choose the closest body plan. Birds, two-legged animals, and cloven-hoofed animals are not supported yet.
