Ant Trail makes ants walk a route you draw in the viewport - no baking, no IK setup, no hand-keyed animation.
Draw the path, press Play, and the ants follow it while adapting to the ground: they climb rocks and steps instead of passing through them, and the body arches and the abdomen lifts on bumps like a real insect. Add an obstacle and the path climbs over it by itself.
Features
- Hand-drawn paths (click to add a point, right-click to confirm)
- Feet that follow the real surface: ground, slopes, steps, rocks
- Two formations: Single file and Swarm (up to 80 ants)
- Real-time: sliders update the walk instantly, no bake
- Automatic path fitting and smoothing, plus a continuity rule that prevents spikes
- Colour control for the whole group (colour + blend mode + opacity)
- Live group settings: number of ants, spacing, variation and seed on the fly
- Align camera to my view: one click and the scene camera copies exactly what you see
- Save / Reset scene / Find the ants helper buttons
- One-click video: sets 1080p MP4 (H.264) and renders the walk
- FBX export with the walk of one ant - one skeleton, one animation, so every viewer plays it
- Built-in step-by-step tutorial inside the panel
In the package
- The Blender add-on (install from disk, ready to use)
- A demo scene with the ant, the ground, rocks, a finished path and a ready group
- Documentation
Requirements
Blender 4.0 or newer (tested on 5.2 LTS). Windows, macOS and Linux.
The tool is tuned on the included ant rig (Coxa / Femur / Tibia bones, legs L1-L4 and R1-R4), so the ant ships with it.
