Blendfog - Depth Fade Fog Shader

Jesper Bylov in Miscellaneous

Why a fog card instead of volumetrics?
Volumetrics are heavy, slow to iterate, and hard to art-direct precisely. A fog card renders fast, previews instantly, and you can place exactly the atmosphere you want exactly where you want it. Making it elegant and intuitive to use.
Is this hard to use?
No. Place a plane, assign the material or use one of the assets, move the sliders. If you've ever used a fog card before, you already know how this works — it just has better edges.
Hard edge where the fog meets a specific object? (EEVEE)
On some objects they are set to Blended. This results in a error on the raycast calculation. A fix is to open that object's Material Properties → Settings and switch Render Method from Blendedto Dithered on objects that affect the BlendFog objects.
I cannot edit the material when using the asset browser?
Make sure it is set to Append or Pack to be able to make changes to the material on the fly.
Do I need to know shader nodes?
No. Everything is exposed as named sliders on the material. You never have to open the node tree unless you want to.
Can I use my own textures or videos?
Yes - that's a core feature. Swap in your own cloud, smoke or noise textures, or plug in a video clip, in a couple of clicks. The full version also ships with a library of presets to start from. Textures are marked as a Green Group.
What's the difference between the lite version and premium version?
The free version is a depth-fading fog card with intersection feather, intensity and emission. The full version adds proximity camera fade, camera view-angle fade, flow maps, animated noise, normal maps, texture/video support and the full asset library.
Will it slow down my scene?
It depends. A fog card is far lighter than volumetrics. But adding a lot will slow down your scene in Rendered view. Animated noise and flow maps add a little extra, but you can turn either off with a checkbox.
Which Blender version do I need?
Blender 5.1 or newer. It is dependent on the Raycast Node.
Do I get future updates?
Yes. Buy once, get updates to the shader and asset library.
Can I use this in commercial projects?
Yes. Use it in client work, cinematics and personal projects, anything really. You can't resell or redistribute the shader or assets themselves as your own product or part of a project.
It's not working / I found a bug.
