C4D2Blender

Carpediego in Import & Export

C4D2Blender v1.1.1 - Changelog

🐛 Bug Fixes & Improvements

📏 Corrected Import Scale

Fixed a major issue where imported objects had an incorrect scale.

  • Problem: Objects imported from Cinema 4D were imported with a scale value of 0.01, requiring manual correction.
  • Solution: The addon now uses a global_scale of 1.0, ensuring that objects retain their original values.
  • Result: Imports now have a 1:1 scale, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.

🔄 Fixed Default Rotation

Addressed the incorrect default rotation of imported objects.

  • Problem: Objects exported from Cinema 4D with zero rotation would appear in Blender with a 90-degree rotation on one axis due to differences in the coordinate systems.
  • Solution: The importer now correctly configures the axis mapping (-Z, Y) during the import process.
  • Result: Objects now retain their original coordinates.

✨ Improved Re-import with Modifiers

Enhanced the re-import process to better preserve modifiers added in Blender.

  • Problem: When re-importing a scene, modifiers added to objects in Blender were lost.
  • Solution: The addon now saves an object's modifier stack before a re-import and intelligently reapplies it to the new version of the object.
  • Result: A more non-destructive workflow, allowing users to add and retain Blender modifiers across multiple C4D2Blender imports.

⚠️ Duplicate Material Alert in Cinema 4D

Added a preventive check for duplicate material names in the Cinema 4D plugin.

  • Problem: Blender struggles to handle FBX files that contain materials with identical names, leading to import errors or incorrect material assignments.
  • Solution: The Cinema 4D plugin now scans the scene for duplicate material names before exporting. If any are found, it displays an alert and cancels the export.
  • Result: Prevents data corruption and ensures a smoother import process by enforcing unique material names.

  • Benefit: Prevents typing errors and facilitates reuse of existing collections

🖼️ Import Objects with Viewport Colors

Added a button to control whether materials display their colors in the viewport.

  • What it does: Allows disabling the display of material colors in the viewport
  • How to use: "Apply color in viewport" checkbox (enabled by default)
  • Benefit: Cleaner, neutral viewport when working with many colorful materials

🔄 Material Refresh Button

Added a refresh button to apply material colors to viewport.

  • What it does: Automatically extracts colors from the "Base Color" of each Principled BSDF material
  • How to use: Button with 🔄 icon next to "Apply color in viewport"
  • Benefit: Allows updating viewport colors according to actual materials

🐛 Bug Fixes

🦴 Bone Import Issues

Fixed some problems related to armatures and bones.

  • Problem: Conflicts when importing skeletons from Cinema 4D
  • Solution: Improved armature handling during import process (not yet definitive solution)
  • Result: More stable import of rigged characters

👻 Render Hidden Objects

Completely solved the main problem with objects marked as "not visible in render" in Cinema 4D.

  • Problem: Imported objects appeared outside the collection with inconsistent visibility settings
  • Symptoms:
    • Objects outside the import collection
    • Objects hidden in viewport but visible in render
  • Solution: Automatic logic that detects and corrects the inconsistency
  • Result: Total consistency between Cinema 4D and Blender for render-hidden objects

📋 Summary of Changes

  • ✅ 4 new features for better organization and control
  • ✅ 2 critical bugs solved (bones and hidden objects)
  • ✅ More efficient workflow with fewer manual steps
  • ✅ Greater compatibility Cinema 4D ↔ Blender
