MetaHuman DNA Importer for Blender

Everything you need to prepare a MetaHuman, import it into Blender, and start working.

Contents
1 · Requirements 3 · Preparing your MetaHuman
2 · Installation 4 · Using the add-on

1 · Requirements

Blender Version 4.0 or newer (including Blender 5)
MetaHuman A downloaded MetaHuman with its DNA / source files available locally
Rigify Enabled in Blender — only needed if you want to generate a Rigify rig

2 · Installation

  1. Drag the file into Blender and it's installed.
  2. Open the N-panel in the 3D viewport (press N) to find the add-on tab.

3 · Preparing your MetaHuman

Works with both older MetaHumans downloaded through Quixel Bridge and newer MetaHumans exported from Unreal Engine. Pick the method that matches how you got your character.

OPTION 1 · RECOMMENDED
MetaHuman 5.6 – 5.7 · Unreal Engine DCC Export

The recommended method for newer or custom MetaHumans created inside Unreal Engine.

  1. Open or create your MetaHuman inside Unreal Engine.
  2. Use the MetaHuman Creator DCC Export workflow.
  3. Export the character as a folder or ZIP archive.
  4. If you exported a ZIP archive, extract it first.
  5. In Blender, select the extracted MetaHuman DCC folder inside the add-on.

To manage multiple MetaHumans, place all exported DCC folders inside one parent folder, then select that parent folder in the add-on:

My MetaHumans
├── Character_01_DCC
├── Character_02_DCC
└── Character_03_DCC

You can also select a single DCC folder directly — but only that MetaHuman will appear.

OPTION 2
MetaHuman 5.0 – 5.5 · Quixel Bridge

For MetaHumans downloaded through Quixel Bridge, the download setting must be:

UAsset + Source Asset

This is very important. Downloading only the Unreal-ready UAsset version will not include the DNA and source files required by the add-on.

After downloading, Bridge usually stores MetaHumans here:

C:\Users\\Documents\Megascans Library\Downloaded\DHI

The correct DHI folder should contain generated MetaHuman asset folders similar to this:

DHI
├── assetsData.json
├── 2k0gklNx_asset
├── l6l3ki0A_asset
└── 9ftbklOF_asset

Select the main DHI folder to show all MetaHumans, or one _asset folder for just that character.

OPTION 3
Manual Quixel Website Download

MetaHumans downloaded manually from the Quixel website are also supported. In the download settings, make sure to select:

UAsset + Source Asset

This is essential. If you download only the UAsset version, the package may not include the DNA and source files required by the add-on.

Quixel MetaHumans page:

quixel.com/megascans/metahumans

  1. Extract the downloaded ZIP archive completely.
  2. Make sure the package was downloaded using UAsset + Source Asset.
  3. Place the extracted MetaHuman asset folder inside your DHI folder:
C:\Users\\Documents\Megascans Library\Downloaded\DHI

The DHI folder should then look similar to this:

DHI
├── assetsData.json
├── 2k0gklNx_asset
├── l6l3ki0A_asset
└── 9ftbklOF_asset

Select the main DHI folder to show all available MetaHumans.

4 · Using the add-on

Once your MetaHuman is prepared, the add-on builds the character in order, top to bottom, inside the N-panel.

1Open Blender
2Open the right-side N-panel
3Choose your MetaHuman source folder
4Select texture resolution and LOD options
5Add the available meshes
6Add materials and textures
7Add the skeleton
8Add the facial control panel
9Optionally generate a Rigify rig
10Optionally import or create your own .dnapack asset package

This is an independent Blender add-on and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Epic Games. MetaHuman and Unreal Engine are trademarks of Epic Games, Inc.
