September 23, 2026: Free Update v123
Fix:
The Random Lens Flare Generator is up and running again after being broken in Blender 5.0. It was originally an internal tool, so it’s a bit of a hidden gem! We’re dropping a YouTube video soon to show you how to get the most out of it.
September 17, 2026: Free Update v119
Fix:
During recent updates for Blender 5 compatibility, an issue was introduced that broke the ray-cast occlusion system responsible for fading sunbeams behind objects. The expected sunbeam fading behavior has now been fully restored.
August 16, 2026: Free Update v118
Fix:
Eevee & macOS Visibility Bug: Fixed an issue introduced in Blender 5.2 where specific flare elements (Ghosts, Horizontal Ghosts, Sunbeams, and Hoop) were not displaying or rendering in Eevee on macOS systems. Cycles was unaffected, but this issue also disrupted the "Render Flare on Separate Layer" feature. Root Cause & Workaround: The bug stemmed from a lower limit on the maximum number of Attributes supported per shader in Eevee under Apple Metal. To resolve this, the internal Dirt Texture material features were disabled on these specific element shaders. Note: The dedicated "Lens Dirt" generator is completely unaffected and continues to function normally.
Compatibility Note:
Action Required: After updating to this version, please delete any existing flares in your scene and re-add them to apply the fix.
July 17, 2026: Free Update v117
Fix:
- Resolved a compatibility issue caused by recent API changes in Blender 5.2 that was preventing Flared2 from functioning correctly. The addon is now fully operational.
Compatibility Note:
- Please note that v117 is not backward compatible with versions of Blender prior to 5.2. If you are using an older version of Blender, we highly recommend staying on a previous Flared release, such as v116.
May 29, 2026: Free Update v116
Improvements:
- Added compatibility with the Blender Extensions platform. No new addon features have been introduced in this release.
March 26, 2026: Free Update V115062
Minor Fix:
- Starburst: adjusted the intensity gradient to correct excessive variation in the highlights.
- Point Light: modified the Light Blur values to allow for a better blurring effect.
New Feature:
- Sun Beams: added the Chromaticity effect, which creates a colored halo around the flare's origin. Scale and Intensity can be adjusted.

Dicember 21, 2025: Free Update V114062
Fix:
- Fixed an issue introduced in the previous version that affected the “Render Flares on Separate Layer” function, generating an incorrect node setup.
- Identified and fixed a bug that could cause crashes during rendering, especially on macOS.
New Features:
- Added a parameter to disable Depth of Field on the Eevee layer when using “Render Flares on Separate Layer”, preventing the flare from being altered by DOF.
- Added a control to enable “Lock Interface” during rendering, reducing the risk of crashes when using “Render Flares on Separate Layer”.

October 15, 2025: Free Update V114058
New feature/Fix:
- Fixed a potential issue occurring in Blender 5.0 and above when enabling "Render Flares on Separate Layer". The new compositor introduced in Blender 5.0 required specific adjustments. Flared2 now automatically detects the Blender version and adapts accordingly, ensuring full compatibility with both Blender 5.0+ and earlier versions.
August 3, 2025: Free Update V114057
Bug Fix:
- Fixed a recurring issue that could cause Blender to freeze during preset export on certain configurations (possibly related to conflicts with other addons; exact conditions not yet fully identified).
- Added an optional feature to use the current scene for preview generation when exporting a preset, instead of the default standard scene. This option is available only when Eevee is selected and should be used as a workaround in case of freeze issues during preset export.
May 11, 2025: Free Update V109057
Bug Fix:
- Fixed an issue where, in certain situations, the lens dirt was still visible even when the flare was occluded by an obstacle.
- Corrected a typographical error in the name of the "Anamorphic" panel
.

Bug Fix:
- Addressed minor flare occlusion bugs for better rendering accuracy.
- Cleaned up shaders by removing outdated and unnecessary nodes.

Bug Fix:
- A bug that occurred in Cycles - where the starburst would disappear behind an object (displaying an incorrect black shader) - has been fixed. To resolve the issue, you will need to remove flares created with previous versions and re-add them using this update. (You may want to save your presets first to avoid losing your custom flare settings.)

No notes for this version.
