How to Make Your First Short Film in Blender

millanaire in Video Tutorials

This course is for anybody who has always wanted to venture into making short films with Blender but, for some reason--hasn't, either because they didn't know how to approach it, or presumed it would be too difficult to do, or maybe thought their weak lil laptop was incapable of making one, or maybe they think they lack the skill to make a good short film, or maybe the propsect of AI advancing at such a fast pace scares them and they think Blender will become irrelevant as a skill in the future or maybe they are just lazy and undisciplined--and the idea of making a film to them seems interesting at first, but as soon as they start the project, they realize this is not gonna be as easy as they thought or this is not gonna turn out the way i imagined it--so they drop it in the middle and start a new one--and have been stuck in this loop of starting and stopping forever and they are just not happy with the way their creative journey is going so far--and they just wanna improve for once--in all facets of 3d design, filmmaking and storytelling--and just finish a film for once--and be proud of it.

  • Anybody who wants to tell their stories through the medium of 3d animated short films using blender (coz blender is awesome and traditional filmmaking is not coz it requires expensive equipment and lighting gear and a dslr and a permit perhaps for shooting in a cool place and a butt load of money to top it all of and the worst of it all--is interacting with other people,ew!)
  • Anybody who has a basic understanding of how Blender works and have made a few renders in it and won't be lost in a course that is not catered for absolute beginners.
  • Anybody who wants to learn what it is like to run a movie produciton house right from their bedroom.
  • Someone who has ideas for stories, but doesn't know how to implement them and make them come to life in a tool like blender.
  • Someone who is just looking to improve in blender and just learn new things and tips and tricks through a systematic structured course.
  • Someone who is not looking for a step by step modelling and texturing and lighting and color grading course coz they think that's what's important to learn as a filmmaker. But instead learn the skill required to be a 'Director'. The most important person on a film set!
  • Someone who is not absolutely, unequivocally--against 3D AI Model Generators--and Texture Generators--coz we will be using them throughout the course--not as a replacement of our artistic skills but as a tool. And actually learn How to use AI as a tool in our bedroom film studio pipeline.
  • Someone who is not expecting source files to be part of the course. coz they're not. coz that's not what this course is about. i explain in the course why relying on source files to learn blender and filmmaking in general is a horrible idea in a lil more detail. but if you are here looking for free source files, this is not the course for you.
  • Someone who is not that bad at Blender and making 3d Renders but is missing the discipline required to finish a long term project like this.
  • Someone extremely lazy who procrastinates a lot and needs a wake up call to get him up and start chasing that filmmaking dream before it's too late
  • Someone not confident in their storytelling skills and the stories they come up with.
  • Someone just looking for a good time and watch an Indian dude speak enthusiastically about a topic they are also passionate about.

  • Coz most courses are structured in a way that make you feel like--hey this is easy--here you go--here's a secret tip i knew that you didn't about blender--here--take it--and now you have that special skill and knowledge as well that is required to make you a good artist and now with this new information that you have--that i have given you--you can now make awesome renders just like I can. But that's not true. Coz You go back to your own computer and make a render after watching such a course and nothing has really changed. You are still making sucky renders that you are not happy with. I think the process of making a 3d render is not easy. The process of making a whole short film is not easy. it is very very difficult and long and annoying and you require a lot of patience and resilience and a lot of mental and physical strength to make something good and make something you are proud of. and this course shows you that whole process--live--as i--the apparent teacher of this course--struggles through that chaotic process of making a short film from scratch--himself--right in front of you--going through the chaos of it all--failing at every moment--making shitty renders after shitty renders but slowly and steadily realizing that--and thus improving it all--bit by bit and getting there through an arduous process and joruney--that--to say the least--was not easy at all--and there was no trick, no shortcut to get there--just self discipline and a structure--that's it!
  • Coz most courses just preach and don't practise what they preach. But I've tried my best to preach as less as possible throughout the course and actually show you the process of making a film myself in the course. 70% of the course is just me making a film from scratch and not just talking about making a film.
  • Coz most courses are boring as hell and way too well scripted tbh. not this course though. I have no idea what i am doing--like you don't know what you're doing either. This is not a student-teacher relationship. This is a classmate, a fellow student, a friend who has kinda figured out a small lil thing and wants to share it with you for money. coz he needs that money. he would sell it for free if he could. but he can't.
  • Coz we won't be just sharing our wins throughout the course. But the failures too. Coz most of the 3d filmmaking journey is going through failures and then slowly and steadily overcoming them through whatever means possible.
  • Coz we think the skill you are lacking is not the skill of making good looking 3d renders but something else. Coz the visual quality of a render has nothing to do with filmmaking and storytelling. it doesn't matter how bad your renders look--the most important skill to learn here is storytelling.
  • Coz this course--at a lot of moments is really funny--not coz I am funny--but coz funny things happen to me--as they do with everybody who is trying to make a film.

  • The total course is 20hrs and 44mins long (if watched in 1x but nobody does that--so probably 10hrs realistically)

Included Course Player for Easy Watching

  • I made this neat lil Course Player for your Viewing Experience as well. So you can watch it like you are watching it on a sophsticated Course Website

  • It has a in-built note taker so you can remember what you learn throughout the course.

  • It also shows a progress bar of how far you've come and how much of the course is left!

  • You can even turn on BG Music if you want in the background whenever the course feels a lil too silent or passive (this is separate from the audio of the course)

  • And some other fun stuff to make your course viewing experience nice and easy.

A lil bit about the the Creator of the Course:

Hi. My name is stache. Sorry, My internet name is stache. I am the creator behind the once famous but now kind of dying youtube channel - stache

I have been making short films there for a while now and I think I have found a game-changing workflow that works for someone like me--a procrastinating, fickle-minded, undisciplined artist who once could never get anything done but suddenly now has the apetite for any kind of story that he wants to make.

I hope this doesn't sound like bragging coz it is the complete opposite of that. I was always a shitty student at school. Even the simplest of things there took me a lot of effort to understand. Coz I think my brain was just slow. It just needed the most basic explanation of the topic possible for me to grasp it properly. I really relate to the subreddit r/explainlikeimfive. And that hasn't changed till now. I struggled a lot of with Blender as well when i was just starting out. People could make the craziest things with just two years of experience when i could barely make a door--after 5 years of grinding and winding. But just like school, once i understood it--once i understood what makes a good artist, what makes a good film and what makes a good story--i think i have grasped it forever.

And i think that's what makes me a good teacher as well. Coz I am always thinking like a 5 year old. That sounds weird. But I hope you understand.

Since I am thinking like a 5yr old, i teach like a 5yr old as well. And I think if you're like me--again--a procrastinating, fickle-minded, undisciplined artist--trying to figure out what's wrong with them--you should definitely check out the course.

That's it. See you in there.
