Ies Procedural Beam

MikeStore in Procedural Generators

A fully procedural, node-based volumetric beam light for Blender — sculpt any IES-style distribution, stack rings and cores into complex shapes, add animated reflector caustics and a colored volumetric shaft, all from clean labeled controls. No external IES files required (but supported). Cycles.
Most "IES" setups lock you into a baked photometric file you can't art-direct. This asset does the opposite: the entire light distribution is built procedurally inside a node group, so you shape the beam with sliders instead of hunting for the right .ies download — and when you do want real photometry.

Built on a Point light so the node group defines the whole emission profile (nothing fights Blender's spot cone), it drops onto any light and works in Cycles out of the box.

What makes it different — the band profile

Each module lights an angular band between an inner and outer angle, with an independent soft edge on each side:

  • Inner Angle at 0 → a normal solid cone
  • Inner Angle opened up → a dark center with a ring of light
  • Chain several modules together → ring + core with a dark gap between, multi-lobe shapes, layered distributions

This is how real IES lobes are structured, so you can reproduce — or invent — complex beam shapes that a single falloff can't.
There are infinite variations and very useful for interior design artist and archviz specialists, as well as cinematic volumetric lights with dispersion on the edges looks stunning.

Features

  • Procedural IES distribution — endless beam shapes from clean, labeled controls
  • Chainable modules — stack bands for rings, cores, gaps, and multi-lobe beams
  • Animated reflector caustics — a 4D pattern that morphs over time (one Speed slider), giving the beam living, filament-like structure
  • Volumetric shaft — a ready domain with a one-click On/Off switch, density control, and color-along-length (warm near the source → cool at the far end, editable via a color ramp)
  • Physical color — true Blackbody temperature in Kelvin plus saturation control
  • Chromatic edge dispersion — subtle RGB fringing at the beam edge for realistic optics
  • Clean, labeled node tree — organized frames and grouped N-panel controls (Color / Shape / Caustics) so buyers can actually read and tweak it
  • Plug-and-play asset — drag the collection in for a full working beam rig, or drop just the node group onto your own light

What's included

  • IES Procedural Beam shader node group (the brain)
  • IES Volume Shaft volume node group + material
  • A pre-configured demo light + multiple variations, in a ready-to-drag collection
  • Usage guide

Requirements

  • Blender 5.x (built and organized for the 5.x node API)
  • Cycles renderer (uses Volume Scatter, Blackbody, IES texture; EEVEE behavior is not guaranteed)

Notes

  • The volumetric shaft is fully optional — toggle it off, or delete the domain, and the IES light works standalone.
  • Aim the beam by rotating the light object.
