Does this addon replace the current rendering features in Blender?
No, Ki utilizes Blenders built-in rendering features while automating certain rendering scenarios. A unique feature that Ki presents, is the render history. Where artists can preview a collection of renders(finished/wip). You can also specify a desired directory for your render previews to be saved, or change directory where you have existing "kilelit_preview" files and those will populate the render history previewer. The panels following the core panel of Ki, which is the Render Panel, are all built in Blender parameters that are placed within Ki's space for quick access.
Why use this addon?
Kilelit/Ki uses Blender's built in features while automating some of the setups you would typically take to create certain render scenario, such as rendering the selected only. Another powerful feature to Ki, is the render history, where artists can iterate on look-dev while focusing on creativity with less clicking/navigation. This can help with productivity and efficiency, while presenting all the parameters you would typically refine to achieve desired render results.
