MeshCloud — Non-Destructive Mesh to Point Cloud for Blender
Turn ordinary Blender meshes into versatile point-cloud and point-based effects without destroying your original geometry.
MeshCloud is a non-destructive Geometry Nodes-based add-on designed for artists working with point-cloud visuals, scanning effects, holograms, procedural particles, stylized rendering, motion graphics, and data-oriented workflows.
Select your mesh, convert it to a point cloud, and fine-tune the result directly from the Blender sidebar.
Key Features
Three Sampling Modes
Choose the point distribution that fits your project:
Vertices — use the source mesh vertices directly.
Random Surface — distribute points randomly across the surface.
Even Surface — use Poisson-style distribution with minimum-distance control.
Automatic Point Fitting
MeshCloud can automatically estimate density, spacing, radius, and jitter from your mesh size to target a desired point count, making it easier to get consistent results across objects of different scales.
Full Point Controls
Customize the look and movement of your points with:
Point radius
Radius variation
Static jitter
Animated noise drift
Drift speed
Drift scale
Random seed
Viewport density control
You can also use a vertex group as a density mask for localized effects.
Flexible Color & Glow
Create different visual styles with four color modes:
Solid color
Random color blending
Gradient
Source mesh color attribute
Add emission/glow for luminous point-cloud, hologram, scanner, and sci-fi looks.
Animated Scan & Reveal
Create progressive scan effects by animating the Reveal control.
Choose an X, Y, or Z scan axis, reverse the direction, and customize the scan edge with:
Edge width
Edge glow
Edge color
A built-in Scan Animation tool can automatically keyframe the reveal from 0 to 1 over your chosen frame range.
Built-In Style Presets
Start quickly with ready-made looks including:
Lidar Scan
Scanner Sweep
Hologram
Dust
Fireflies
Dense Cloud
Chunky Cubes
Preset sizing automatically adapts to the source mesh.
Point, Shape & Object Outputs
Choose how MeshCloud generates the final result:
Point cloud
Instanced shapes
Mesh vertices
For instanced shapes, use spheres, cubes, or a custom Blender object, with optional random rotation.
Non-Destructive Workflow
MeshCloud works as a modifier, so your original mesh can remain intact while you experiment with the point-cloud settings.
You can keep the source visible, remove the modifier, reset settings, or migrate older MeshCloud node setups to the current version.
Bake & Apply Tools
When you're ready to commit the result, MeshCloud provides:
Bake to New Object — creates a new object from the current point cloud while preserving the source.
Apply as Vertices — replaces the source mesh with real point vertices.
Colored PLY Export
Export generated point clouds directly to PLY, including XYZ position and RGB color data.
The exporter supports both binary and ASCII output, with an option to export in world space.
Included Workflow Tools
MeshCloud also includes:
Auto Fit
Randomize Seed
Copy Settings to Selected
User Presets
Reset Settings
Upgrade/Migration support for older MeshCloud setups
Requirements
Blender 5.0 or newer
MeshCloud appears in:
3D Viewport → Sidebar (N) → MeshCloud
Whether you're building a LiDAR-style visualization, holographic character, floating dust, procedural fireflies, scanning animation, or a stylized point-based render, MeshCloud gives you a single editable workflow for turning meshes into controllable point-based effects.
