Parametric Acoustic Slat Wall Generator – User Guide

1. Getting Started

  • Installation: Open Blender and go to Edit > Preferences > File Paths. Under Asset Libraries, click the plus icon and add the folder containing your downloaded .blend file.

  • Adding to Scene: Open the Asset Browser window, locate the Thibblin Studio catalog, and simply drag and drop the generator straight into your 3D viewport.

  • Targeting Curves: For curve-based distribution, select the generator, go to the Modifier Properties tab, and use the eyedropper tool on the "Curve" input to point to your desired Bézier curve.

2. Modifier Settings (Distribution Modes & Parameters)

You can switch between four dedicated distribution modes inside the modifier panel depending on your design layout:

  • Manual Count: Specify the exact number of slats you need for complete, precise control.

  • Fixed Width: Define the exact total panel width and let the generator automatically calculate the layout.

  • Curve Follower: Generates slats along a custom curve path. Upgraded in V2: Slats now automatically face downward/properly align, allowing you to draw or project your curve from any angle or viewport viewport flawlessly.

  • Circle Mode: Specifically built for perfect circular geometry. Wrap slats flawlessly around cylindrical pillars and columns using a dedicated diameter control.

  • Slat & Panel Controls: Effortlessly adjust Slat Width, Slat Depth, Slat Spacing, and overall Panel Height via intuitive sliders.

  • Automatic Backing: The acoustic felt backing intelligently and non-destructively scales to fit your configuration perfectly.

3. Working with Materials (100% Procedural)

The generator features two dedicated material slots inside the modifier panel: Slat Material (for the wooden ribs) and Background Material (for the acoustic felt).

Five premium, lightweight shaders built entirely inside Blender's Shading Editor are included:

  • TS_Wood_Light_Oak: Bright, Scandinavian-style wood grain.

  • TS_Wood_Walnut: Rich, warm, and dark luxurious wood tones.

  • TS_Wood_Smoked_Oak: Sophisticated dark, contemporary desaturated tones.

  • TS_Fabric_Felt_Black & TS_Fabric_Felt_Grey: High-density, light-catching acoustic felt micro-textures.

  • How to Apply: Simply click on either material slot in the modifier panel and search for the TS_ prefix to choose your finish. Because they are 100% procedural, they offer infinite resolution for macro close-up shots with zero texture files needed.

4. Performance & Production Tips

  • Flawless Bevels: The generator outputs clean, predictable topology. For maximum realism, add a native Blender Bevel Modifier after the Geometry Nodes modifier to catch crucial architectural light highlights.

  • Viewport vs. Render: For massive installations, you can keep the curve resampling slightly higher during design for fluid viewport navigation, and lower it before hitting render for perfectly smooth curves.

  • Realize Instances: This is active by default to guarantee that the procedural wood grain maps naturally and uniquely across every individual slat without repetitive patterns.
