Retopoflow 4 [Beta]
Does Retopoflow 4 work on older versions of Blender?
No, Retopoflow 4 needs some newer features and fixes in Blender in order to run correctly. To use Retopoflow with a version before Blender 4.2, please use Retopoflow 3 instead.
Where is the Retopoflow menu?
There is no longer a separate mode in Retopoflow 4, so there is no need for a menu in the 3D View header. Instead, you can find the tools in the Edit Mode toolbar. To quickly start a new retopology session, use one of the Retopology options added to the Object Mode Add Mesh menu.
Does Retopoflow work on my OS?
Yes! Retopoflow works on any system that Blender supports, including Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
Is there a polycount limit?
Retopoflow 4 can comfortably work at the high resolutions needed for modern 3D graphics. The performance varies by tool. For example, PolyPen can work perfectly smoothly on meshes as high as 50 million polygons while Contours will have a few second delay at polycounts that high since it walks every face. We are currently working on alternative algorithms for any area that can be slow, even at extreme polycounts, so that you never have to worry about that again.
What objects are sources or targets?
Retopoflow 3 used the term 'source' for the high poly object you want to snap to and 'target' for the new low poly object that you're creating. In Retopoflow 4, target objects are now called retopology objects to avoid confusion and any object in Edit Mode is a retopology object. Any object that is visible but not in Edit Mode is considered a source to snap to.
Can I upgrade from version 3 for free?
Existing Retopoflow customers can use the coupon code retopoflow-og at checkout for 25% off. Combined with the reduced price during the beta, that comes to about $45, which is just over $40 off the regular price of $85.99.
If you'd like to stick with version 3, no worries! We will continue to keep it updated for at least two years after the full release of version 4, and it will also receive a large performance update in the very near future. Our last paid upgrade was over 8 years ago. We're proud of that fact and do not plan to charge again in the next few years. However, we needed to this time in order to afford the few years we spent working on version 4 while also fully supporting version 3.
