SeamlessTex — procedural → seamless PBR converter
Stop reinventing the wheel every time a procedural Blender material needs to ship as a flat texture. SeamlessTex bakes your shader graph to a clean, seamless, multi-resolution PBR set with one click — plus tile-correction, height-to-normal, and Substance-friendly metadata.
What it solves
Procedural materials are beautiful in Blender but useless to ship engines that don't render Cycles shader graphs at runtime. Manual bake-to-plane is fiddly: you need to set up UVs, configure passes, run multiple bakes, handle the metallic input swap, get the normal in the right space. SeamlessTex is a one-button pipeline that does all of it.
Headline features
- One-click bake. Procedural material → 5 PBR maps (Base Color / Roughness / Metallic / Normal / Height). Done in one operator.
- Seamless by construction. Baking onto a 1×1 plane with [0,1] UVs gives a tileable result inherently for procedural shaders. For raster-fed materials, the Edge Blend or Mirror Tile correction makes them tile too.
- Height → Normal. Synthesise a tangent-space normal from a baked height map via numpy Sobel filter. Faster than baking normal directly, useful when your material doesn't have a tangent-space normal connected.
- Multi-resolution. Bake at 4K, also export 2K and 1K downsampled copies automatically — for LODs / mobile / streaming variants.
- Substance metadata. Ships a JSON sidecar describing every map (file, type, colour space) so Substance Painter / Designer can ingest the folder as a smart material.
- Standalone image ops. Apply edge-blend correction to any existing image. Convert any height map to a normal map. Both work directly in the Image Editor.
Tile correction modes
| Mode | How it works | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| None | No correction | Pure procedural materials — already seamless |
| Edge Blend | Linearly blend opposite edges within an N-pixel border | Mostly-seamless raster, slight wrap mismatch |
| Mirror Tile | 2×2 mirror — guaranteed seamless by construction | Non-seamless input, can spend 4× texture memory |
Why not Substance Designer
SD is a generator. SeamlessTex is a converter. If you already authored a material in Blender shader graph (or your team's stuck on Blender procedural workflows), SeamlessTex turns it into a deliverable PBR set without you re-authoring anything in Designer.
Compatibility
Blender 4.2 LTS and later on Windows / macOS / Linux. Uses Cycles for baking and numpy for image post-processing — no external dependencies.
