MHD-Int Star Clusters — Nine Real Clusters at Their Measured Size and Mass
Where do the numbers come from?
Baumgardt & Hilker (2018) and the updated table, Harris (1996, 2010 ed.), Lodieu et al. 2019 (Pleiades, Praesepe, Hyades), King (1966), Kroupa (2001). Full list in CREDITS.md.
Which Blender version do I need?
Blender 4.2 LTS or newer. Older versions (3.x) are not supported.
Does it work with EEVEE?
It has only been tested with Cycles. Materials and lighting were tuned for Cycles.
Can I use the renders commercially?
Yes. Images, animations and scenes you create are yours, including for commercial projects. The script itself is GPL-3.0-or-later.
Do I need an add-on?
No. Everything is procedural and generated by the included script; no add-on and no external textures are required.
What is not modelled?
Blue stragglers, binaries, mass segregation, rotation, tidal tails and the multiple populations of Omega Centauri. Core-collapsed clusters (M15, NGC 6397) do not show their true central cusp.
Are the colours real?
No. Colours and brightness are for show. All globular clusters share one age (12 Gyr) for the turn-off.
What does one rendered point mean?
Between about 1 and 80 real stars, depending on the cluster.
Is this a real star catalogue?
No. It is a statistical model: star positions follow a King profile fixed by each cluster's measured radii, and masses follow its measured mass function. No individual star is real.
