You know that moment when you open a scene and it's dragging because every texture is a 4K file? Yeah, we've all been there. This addon fixes that without making you dig through folders and batch-resize things in Photoshop like it's 2009.
Texture Downscaler scans whichever objects or materials you point it at, shows you exactly what's eating up memory, and lets you pick a target resolution. One click later, your textures are downscaled, saved, and already swapped back into your materials — no manual relinking, nothing.
Here's what it actually does:
- Scans textures from selected objects, a collection, the whole scene, or every material in the file
- Shows a live list with each texture's current size, resolution, and exactly what it'll become after downscaling
- Estimates how much disk space you'll save before you commit to anything
- Outputs to PNG, JPEG, or keeps the original format — your call
- Optional force-to-power-of-2 for game engine compatibility
- Replaces textures in your materials automatically — no relinking needed
- Can pack the results right into your .blend
It's the kind of tool that should've been in Blender already. Great for archviz artists prepping assets for clients, game devs optimizing for export, or anyone who's tired of their render machine sounding like a jet engine.
