  Very nice addon. I only tried creating color palette and assigning vertex colors to selected vertices. It is already helping a lot. The default vertex color workflow in Blender is very cumbersome. This addon makes it pretty easy and fun to do. Thank you!!

  You can already edit the alpha channel in its own layer. You can make the new layer from an existing one, where it will copy the alpha data, or you can make an entirely new one.
  When you're ready to export it, you'd merge them together.
