YAWP — Yet Another Weight Painter
Quick look up through seas of vertex groups
Blender 4.2+ Rigging Edit/Weight Paint
Quick look up through vertex selection, retrieve vertex group data and their immediate parent-child relationship in a single click
Who is it for?
C
Character artists & riggers
People that needs to rummage through hundreds of vertex groups accross different naming standards or different languages
T
Technical artists
People that needs a quick lookup to where things were and how things work
Highlights
- ✔ Single panel use, simple interface for quick adjustments.
- ✔ Quick vertex groups relational data lookup
- ✔ General purpose weight slider to manipulates weights while preserving per-vertex scaling.
- ✔ General common tools to handles vertex weight manipulation without changing modes
- ✔ Interactive feedbacks between the interface and user input
- ✔ Familiar naming convention accross the interface, with tooltips to help you navigate
Navigate across languages barrier, standards and naming conventions with agnostic selection
BEFORE YOU BUY!
YAWP auto selection performance is near native and most optimization is to tackle this issue Threading, There is a slight overhead when doing the auto-selection, this overhead might become noticeable at higher vertex density. So consider this over the quick lookup through vertex selection.
Tools you get

Extensions (Blender 4.2+)
- Download the .zip file named
yawp - Blender → Edit → Preferences → Get Extensions → ▾ → Install from Disk… → select the zip. → Install from disk
Add-on location
3D Viewport → Sidebar keypress (N) → “YAWP” tab → “YAWP” panel.
Quick start
- Prep:
Select any mesh with armature setup and bunch of vertex groups, if you don't have any you can download the .blend file I have provided, Johhny Boy from a competition I did a long time ago. - Panel:
3D Viewport → Sidebar (N) → YAWP. - Main use:
- Enable Auto-select: Toggle to enable the vertex group agnostic selection, and select some random vertex or vertices, but doing it this way not going to show the changes just yet you have to turn on the "Vertex group weight" from the View 3D overlay settings or, you can go to the next point.
- Weight: This toggle will save you a few clicks to see the auto selection in action visually, this toggle is basically just turn on the "Vertex group weight" you can find on View 3D overlay
- Overlay: Enable this toggle and select some random vertex or vertices, it will show you the neighboring vertex influence.
- Hierarchy view:
Select some vertices or a bone, to show you the immediate parent/child bone on a hierarchical list. And that's it, that was all the core functionality of this addon. Easy right? ;D
Tip: You can also navigate with the hierarchical list, select the list element to change the active vertex groups.
