Addon Doctor checks the add-ons and extensions installed in your Blender and tells you which ones are likely to break in a newer version, before you update.
How it works
- Open the 3D Viewport sidebar (N) and pick the Addon Doctor tab.
- Choose the target version in Destino: 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 or 6.0.
- Press Revisar add-ons (Check add-ons). Each add-on gets a verdict and the reasons behind it.
It reads the files of every installed add-on without importing or running them.
What it checks
- Extension version range: whether blender_version_min and blender_version_max in blender_manifest.toml include the target version.
- Compiled binaries and wheels (.so, .pyd, .dylib, .dll, .whl): their Python tag against the Python of the target version (Blender 5.1 and later use Python 3.13).
- import bgl, removed in Blender 5.0. It tells apart imports at load time from those inside try blocks or functions.
- 58 rules about Python APIs that were removed, renamed or changed in the official Blender 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 release notes (for example scene.node_tree, BLENDER_EEVEE_NEXT, brush.use_airbrush, modifier['Input_2']). Each rule keeps the link to the note it comes from.
- Legacy add-ons (bl_info without a manifest), with a note when they are worth converting.
Verdicts
- se rompe (breaks): it will not install or enable in that version, or it fails while loading.
- revisar (check): it probably loads, but it uses APIs that changed, so some features may fail.
- seguro (safe): nothing from the list was found. This is not a guarantee.
The full report goes to a text named “Addon Doctor – reporte” in the Text Editor, with file and line for each finding.
Good to know
- Language: the interface and the report are in Spanish in this version.
- Read-only: no internet access, no telemetry, and it never changes your other add-ons. The add-ons bundled with Blender are skipped.
- Static analysis: it cannot see version checks such as if bpy.app.version >= (5, 0, 0), so false positives are possible. The report gives file and line so you can check each finding.
- Targets: 5.3 and 5.4 are based on their beta and alpha notes (October 2026), which listed no breaking Python API changes; 6.0 only includes removals that were already announced.
- Compatibility: Blender 3.6 to 4.1 as a legacy add-on, and 4.2 or newer as an extension. Both downloads are included.
Tested
Tested by hand in Blender 3.6.23 LTS on macOS. The extension package was validated and run without a window (headless) in Blender 4.2 LTS and 5.2 LTS.
AI disclosure
AI-assisted: the first draft of the code was generated with Claude, an AI coding assistant. I reviewed it, tested it in my own Blender, adapted it to Blender 3.6 by hand and edited it.
