Advanced Scene to Python Exporter

Metanoid18 in Import & Export

Advanced Scene to Python Exporter reads a Blender scene and writes a Python script that rebuilds it. Pick a scope, pick a style, and you get a file you can run in an empty Blender session. The original .blend is not needed afterwards.

Two ways to export

Exact Replica embeds the mesh data itself, so what comes back matches what went in. The rebuild tested byte-equal to the source on Blender 4.2.0 and 5.2.2.

Generator Script rebuilds the primitives it recognises with bpy.ops calls and live modifier stacks, which leaves you code you can read and edit. Anything it does not recognise falls back to embedded data instead of failing.

What carries over

Hierarchy and nested collection trees. Materials and node trees. Curves and splines. Armatures, vertex attributes, drivers, constraints. Split normals and per-component shading. Animation, embedded textures, and two-pass matrix transforms.

Large scenes

A scene of around 7,000 objects runs to roughly 445,000 lines in one text block, which is slow to open and slow to run. Export ZIP (Chunked) writes numbered chunk files and a run_all.py runner, so a scene that size exports and rebuilds in pieces. The panel tells you when chunked is the better choice.

Where it fits

Pipeline work. Rebuilding a scene on another machine without shipping the .blend, starting a tool from a real scene instead of an empty file, or getting a scene into something you can read and diff.

Where it does not

If you want a live link that keeps two Blender files in sync, this is not that. It writes a script once, and the script is the result.

Part of a small set of Blender tools: Shipshape for game-asset production, OpShed for script conversion, and Provenance for a local versioned asset vault.
