BaffleCraft brings parametric design to the space above. Conceived as a high-fidelity sketching tool, it allows architects and artists to visualize sophisticated ceiling structures instantly — now extended with an experimental branch of agent-driven form-finding scripts for emergent, conceptual shapes. An elegant, accessible introduction to professional workflow.

Architectural Context: What are Baffles?

In modern architecture, baffle ceilings are a key element for controlling both acoustics and atmosphere. They are ideal for installations beneath raw structural ceilings, effectively hiding technologies (HVAC, wiring) in the plenum without visually closing off the space. Beyond their functional role in dampening noise and echo, they add rhythm, depth, and a distinct linear texture that defines the character of any space—from concert halls to modern offices.

Key Features

- True Parametric Engine Unlike the texture-based procedurality of WallCraft, BaffleCraft is built on a precise mathematical construction. It generates 3D geometry that you have complete control over—from lamella spacing and thickness to segmentation rules.

- Graph Mapping Control Forget random noise. You control the shape, undulation, and profile of the lamellas using editable curves in graphs (Graph Mappers). This offers absolute design freedom—allowing you to create a precise, technically clean grid for an architectural study, or a wild, organic wave for a sci-fi environment.

- Pure 3D Representation This tool is designed strictly for visualization, concept design, and digital art. It focuses on generating high-quality 3D geometry for rendering and virtual scenes (games/films). Note: Unlike WallCraft, this module does not generate 2D CNC curves or fabrication data.

- Includes 2 Core Templates Start designing immediately with two pre-configured parametric definitions:

Cross-Shift: A sophisticated system featuring overlapping, offset lamellas with interlocking logic.
Linear Flow: A clean, continuous organic profile designed for elegant, uninterrupted ceiling waves.

Two main targets

Visual Realism: Provides a high-fidelity aesthetic simulation of louver ceiling systems for high-end interior renders and rapid look-dev.

Conceptual Creativity: Acts as a fast atmosphere generator or a flexible base mesh for sketching your own custom parametric designs.

 Agent-Based Form Finding

New, experimental, agent-driven form-finding companion to BaffleCraft to explore conceptual forms.

 I/ Baffle Trace

A field of wandering agents sculpts the lower profile of a vertical-slat array, turning a flat baffle grid into a flowing, undulating underside. Built for fast prototyping and shape exploration of acoustic and decorative ceilings.

Core Logic

  • Form finding: each slat's bottom edge rises near agent trails. Influence Radius sets the reach, Flow sets how smoothly agents turn.
  • Resolution: Subdivisions control how finely the undulation is resolved along each slat.

  • Debug view: optional wireframe of the agent trails behind the form.
Note: This is an experimental branch. It installs as a legacy add-on — drag and drop the file into Blender and it lives in the N-panel sidebar. The download also includes a demo scene for testing: the Python script is already open, so if you'd rather not install it, just run the script once and the panel appears temporarily for that session — gone after you close Blender.

 II/ Sono Trace

An emitter fires noise rays into a room; they bounce off the walls, lose energy with distance and every hit, and where they land on the ceiling they carve the lower profile of a vertical-slat array. A flat louver grid becomes a flowing underside that follows the room's reflected sound field. Built for fast prototyping and shape exploration of acoustic and decorative ceilings.

Core Logic

  • Form finding: each slat hangs deeper where reflected sound concentrates on the ceiling and stays shallow in the quiet zones. The emitter's position and aim drive the whole shape.
  • Acoustic model: Rays, Bounces, surface Absorption, air Attenuation per metre and scatter Roughness shape the reflection field; Max Depth caps how far the slats descend.
  • Resolution: Cell and Blur set how finely the undulation is resolved and how smoothly it flows across the array.
  • Debug view: optional agent layer — amber dots fly along teal reflection trails behind the ceiling, showing the paths that built the form.

Known limits
The room is read as an axis-aligned box — rotated or non-rectangular spaces aren't supported. The simulation is a fast geometric approximation, not a calibrated acoustic solver; treat the output as a form driver, not a measurement.

What's included / how to run it

This is an experimental branch, and the download gives you two ways to use it:

  • Legacy add-on (.zip): install it the usual way — Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install from Disk, pick the zip (or just drag and drop it into Blender). It stays in the N-panel sidebar until you remove it.
  • Demo .blend scene: a closed room with an emitter, ready to generate. The add-on code is already prepared as a Python script in the Text Editor — if you'd rather not install anything, just hit Run Script and the SonoTrace panel appears in the N-panel for that session only. Nothing is written to your add-ons, so when you close Blender the panel is gone. Use this if you only want to try it and want it to disappear from the N-panel afterwards.

 Log

- Reflection-Driven Form Finding (2026-06-13) Added the SonoTrace acoustic branch, where an emitter casts sound rays that bounce through the room and set each slat's depth where they strike the ceiling, sculpting the underside from a simulated reflection field rather than free agent trails, with an optional debug layer of agents flying the traced paths.

- Agent-Based Form Finding (2026-06-07) Added an experimental agent branch where a field of wandering agents leaves trails that drive the slat profile, sculpting the ceiling's underside from emergent paths instead of hand-drawn curves.

- Initial Release (2026-02-27) A Geometry Nodes setup for slat (baffle) ceilings that drives the core dimensions (count, length, spacing, width) and shapes the form through curve-graph mapping.

For organic wall surfaces, make sure to check out WallCraft. Its unique procedural engine handles complex patterns that are notoriously difficult and computationally heavy to achieve in standard tools like Grasshopper, bridging the gap between generative design and manufacturing with direct CNC data export.

Main Difference Between WallCraft and BaffleCraft
While WallCraft is a complete, production solution engineered for manufacturing with precise geometry and CNC data export for fabricators, BaffleCraft serves as a fast, conceptual LITE utility tailored specifically for rapid architectural drafting, mood boards, and ceiling visualizations without CNC export features.
