Build the cliff. Keep every setting live.

Column Cliff Generator turns editable Geometry Nodes into basalt cliffs, stepped causeways, broken ramparts and polygonal rock formations. Designed for environment artists, Blender scene builders and designers creating coastal landscapes, volcanic worlds, stylised environments and static real-time assets.

One system. More than hexagons.

  • 3–64 sides: triangular, square, hexagonal or rounded columns.
  • Eight editable presets with rendered Asset Browser previews.
  • Live silhouette controls: height, coherent terrain relief, terraces, taper, tilt and deterministic seeds.
  • Actual geometric damage: chipped sides, broken tops, missing columns and local collapsed regions.
  • Fit your own mesh top-surface footprint or use a custom normalized column mesh.

New in 1.1: surfaces with more life

World-space triplanar rock materials fix vertical texture stretching. Scatter small stones on the actual deformed tops without stretching the stones on tall columns. Add organic moss cushions near top edges and patchy moss on upward and sheltered surfaces. Tune coverage, patch scale, crevice influence, mineral colour variation and wetness.

Built for iteration

Six shared column variants keep the main output instanced. Only lightweight top-cap proxies are realized for detail scatter. Adaptive density and a hard per-branch point budget keep small-detail counts controlled. Viewport Preview reduces working density while final renders retain full detail. These features have a cost; performance depends on your settings and hardware.

What you get

  • Editable Blender 1.1 library with eight preset scenes and five organized modifier panels.
  • Three original rock material sets and twelve tileable 1K PNG maps, packed and supplied separately.
  • Optional sidebar helper: create presets, copy a selected surface, apply preset settings and create a static mesh copy.
  • Complete English guide, FAQ, changelog and validation reports.
  • 25-second English rendered parameter walkthrough and a compact GIF demo.

Compatibility and workflow

Requires Blender 5.0 or newer. Checked on Windows Blender 5.0.0 and 5.2.1 LTS, including 116 automated checks and an EEVEE render check. Open the .blend without installing anything; install the helper only for convenience buttons. Cycles and EEVEE crevice shading can differ.

Know before buying

This is a column-based, local-Z height-field generator. It does not create caves, fuse columns into a single watertight mass, simulate destruction, or wrap sideways around arbitrary overhangs. Top-stone and moss-clump scatter is bypassed for custom column objects. World-mapped texture patterns change when the formation moves; bake to UV textures for animated or exported assets. Game-engine use requires mesh conversion, material baking or a target-engine triplanar shader, plus collision and LOD setup. Preview lighting and ground in the images are presentation objects.

License scope: the asset library, textures and documentation use the product asset license. The optional Python helper is GPL-3.0-or-later and includes its source and full license.
