Curve Doctor — CAD Drafting & DXF for Blender Curves
Does it export DWG?
No, and it never will. DWG is a closed binary format that cannot be written without someone else’s program. Export DXF and convert — the ODA File Converter does it for nothing. This is said plainly because anyone who searches for DWG and finds the word CAD will reasonably assume otherwise.
Does it import SVG?
No. It imports DXF and nothing else. It writes both SVG and DXF, and it reads DXF.
Why did my spline not import?
A spline that arrives with only the points it was drawn through, and no control net behind them, is named in the report rather than guessed at — it does not come in. Those points sit on the curve, but four of them across a bend sit about a tenth inside it, and a shape that resembles your drawing without being it is the one thing this add-on will not hand you. Ask for the file with its control net, or convert the curve in the program that drew it. Most CAD programs write both.
Will the DXF open in my CAD program as real geometry, not a mess of line segments?
Yes, for the shapes that are really shapes. A circle, an arc or an ellipse is written as one, and an outline of straight sides and rounded corners goes out as the single polyline of lines and arcs a CAD program holds a plate in — so you can dimension by radius, offset and trim. For everything else, Fit Arcs follows the curve with arcs and straight pieces within a tolerance you name, which a CNC post turns straight into G02 and G03. R2000 also writes true splines and NURBS.
Does it work on NURBS curves?
They are diagnosed, measured, converted, and moved, turned and sized as a whole. The tools that reshape a curve leave NURBS alone — all but Weld Points and Stretch — because their points steer the curve rather than sitting on it, so a tool that moved points you did not choose would change the shape in a way nobody asked for. Convert Type brings a NURBS over to bezier keeping its shape, and every tool works from there. NURBS surfaces are outside it entirely.
Does it work on hair curves?
No. This is for Blender’s classic curve objects.
