    You weight paint by what you deem important to your model, OR use the automated weight paint tools to adjust according to presets or custom preferences regarding angle, slope , etc. Then it decimates accordingly.

    You can also use the weight paint as a vertex group with a decimate modifier if you don't want to permanently decimate your model.

    I had a query and the dev he was very quick to respond and fix it.
