Ghoster — Animation Version Visualizer
Who is Ghoster for?
Animators iterating on motion
Character artists refining walk cycles
Motion designers comparing timing
Educators demonstrating before/after changes
What Blender versions are supported?
Targeted for Blender 4.5+ and 5.0+
Works across Windows, macOS, and Linux with automatic GPU backend detection.
How can I reduce memory usage?
Use Silhouette mode
Increase frame step (record every Nth frame)
Reduce frame range
Record fewer layers
Why isn’t my ghost saved with the file?
Ghost data is stored in GPU/runtime memory for performance and safety.
Ghosts are cleared on file load to prevent corruption or excessive memory use.
Does it work in renders?
No. Ghoster is a viewport-only tool designed for iteration and review.
Can I use Ghoster with rigged characters?
Yes. Ghoster captures the evaluated mesh, including deformations from armatures.
Is Ghoster the same as onion skinning?
Not exactly. Onion skinning shows frame-to-frame previews.
Ghoster records full animation passes and lets you compare old vs new motion during playback. (if there is demand for onion skinning i will add this)
