Great addon, only one thing I can't figure out. I use Daz for my character models, and when I apply the textures with the GlobalSkin addon, everything is applied correctly except for the finger nails, which are not textured correctly. I end up having to move the fingernail UV islands manually and switch up some things in the shader editor. Is there a fix to this or something I could be doing wrong?

Looks cool but there's no documentation at all... not all people interested on this are skilled blender user, in my case I need for metahumans, I need to import my own textures and customize...If I create a new texture and baking my PC stuck at 0% I have an i9 and RTX 4090 for sure is my mistake but I need a tutorial!

Hi Elvis, it would have been appreciated if you could have messaged us here on Blender Market, sent us an email, or used our contact form via our website to ask any specific questions you have, before leaving a 1* review.

We have had a number of users express issues that have been solved quickly after a simple back and forth exchange. We have various YouTube videos that show walkthroughs of GlobalSkin, and a number of issue-specific videos that you can watch.

You haven't asked us a question on this review, so we're unable to solve your matter directly in this message - but please use any of the methods above to get in touch and we will share guidance.

Great product, managed to get even the geografts materials on top working perfectly, would be nice to have support for G8.1 that and a little more documentation would be a 5 star for me.

I bought this to use with Human Generator – but might extend its use to Daz3D (not touched that for years!). Despite the lack of insightful documentation, I managed to get some really good looking characters quite easily. So in that regard it’s very good and does what you expect it to. However, for the lack of UI (you’re left to fiddle around in the shader nodes), and no useful tutorials (yet), I think it’s overpriced for what it offers – I mean, it’s not far off the price of Human Generator itself! Here’s hoping for some nice docs and tutorials and maybe a few feature upgrades in the future.

I bought this addon to work with Human Generator in Blender. The Addon is very limited in what it controls at the Blender N-panel level. And in essence really just applies the complex skin shader to the Human Generator model whilst also allowing the user the choose the way bump / displacement of skin is used in the shader.

The Global Skin shader is large and complex with lots of options and it can deliver good results but you need to be familiar with using shader nodes IMO. It is also complicated and it is easy to get in a mess giving hideous skin results without being able to easily reset back to any default starting levels etc.

It can be used to apply a superior skin shader than the one that comes with Human Generator but takes a bit of knowledge and tweaking. However once it is applied to the Human Generator model it breaks some of the Human Generator functions used to adjust the model. I've reached out to The Developer of Global Skin about this but they've politely not offered any real fix or solution. The Human Generator Developer indicated that they had started looing into this but not resolved the issue.

In summary Global Skin is an advanced shader setup with a very minimal N-panel interface not doing much as everything in done in the material shading space. It would be good to see this improved so skin presets could be called upon / set by user to use as starting points and also have a better UI with more functionality (like Human Generator has). That, along and the price being high IMO for the state it is in now is why I give it three stars otherwise it would have been 4 starts (5 stars with all fixed).

Downloaded the zip files and Blender isn't recognizing or seeing the zip files to install. What am I doing wrong?

I downloaded both files, but I couldn't install the add-on. I couldn't even extract part 2. I tried following a video from another user who had the same issue, but it didn't work for me either.
I was trying to go to the Discord channel but the link was not good.
I hope someone can help me out with this.

Wait for tutorials before you buy this. It works great if you want to rapidly create textures for models that don't have any, for example if you are creating a crowd and want unique faces. But if results the dev advertises are possible at all, it seems to take a lot of subdivision on the models. I have also found it to be really good at blending in character creator headshot faces that don't quite integrate with the rest of the body. Unfortunately you lose your normals, eyebrows, and much of your texture if you're using the skin blending which is kind of the point of this. Seams do sometimes show up, but honestly it's pretty good. It is also better than character creator at creating darker skin tones, something CC neglects. I have not been able to bake it to bring the new texture back into CC so I can get the benefits of the nice new skin but recover lost details like normals and eyebrows. If you need a wide range of skin beyond your character creator/daz/human generator presents or want to make characters between these it is quite useful. The dev clearly did put a lot of work into this. If you have headshot textures that don't look as good as they could, it is useful. But unless there is something I am missing (quite possible due to the lack of documentation) I am only finding it improves realism in my models by a couple percentage points. Maybe that's worth the massive price tag to you, I am not sure it is to me. Maybe it is worth it, but I sincerely recommend you wait until others have tested this and provide tutorials about how to recreate what is in the beautiful marketing materials as I have not been able to.

The tutorials are terrible, wasted my money on humanify and this as purchases. Don't waste your money here.

Hi Kavin, could you send a message or Discord to our email address with a request for which tutorials you’d like to see?

We are more than happy to provide whatever support you need to use GlobalSkin to its potential.
