What it does
Gridfinity Forge makes Gridfinity bins and baseplates in Blender with one click. They are built to the open Gridfinity standard (42 mm grid, 7 mm height units, standard base and stacking-lip profiles), so they fit the bins and baseplates you already have. Every object is one watertight mesh in real millimetres, ready to export and slice.
Who it's for
3D-printing makers who organise drawers, toolboxes and workbenches with Gridfinity and want to make their own sizes without OpenSCAD or Fusion. It is also for Blender users who model custom inserts and want an exact Gridfinity base to build on.
Key features
- Bins of any size: 1 to 12 cells wide and deep, 1 to 30 height units (7 mm each).
- Stacking lip (on or off) so bins stack on top of each other.
- Magnet holes: 6.5 x 2.4 mm pockets in every foot for 6 x 2 mm disc magnets (on or off).
- Compartments: dividers along X and Y, joined into the bin with an exact boolean and checked to be watertight.
- Label shelf: a 45 degree shelf along the back wall that prints without supports.
- Wall and floor thickness are adjustable. The default 1.2 mm wall is three lines with a 0.4 mm nozzle.
- Baseplates: any grid size, or Fit drawer. Type the drawer's inside size and you get the most 42 mm cells that fit, plus a solid filler frame for the rest. The panel shows the fit before you click.
- Report: size in mm, number of compartments, solid volume and a watertight check after every click.
How to use
- Install the zip and press N in the 3D Viewport. Open the Gridfinity tab.
- Bin: set width, depth and height. Tick stacking lip, magnet holes and label shelf, set compartments, then click Add Gridfinity Bin.
- Baseplate: choose Grid size or Fit drawer, then click Add Gridfinity Baseplate.
- Export with File > Export > STL or 3MF and slice. With the default 1 unit = 1 mm, sizes come out right in every slicer.
Compatibility
Blender 4.2 LTS or newer. Tested on 4.2 LTS and 5.1. Works as a Blender extension (Get Extensions > Install from Disk), and a legacy add-on zip is included.
Good to know
- Baseplates are the open, lightweight type. They have no magnet holes or screw holes in the plate itself.
- Bins need 2 or more height units for a stacking lip. A 1-unit bin is made without one, and the report tells you.
- There are no scoops or custom cut-outs in this version. Model those yourself on top of the generated bin.
- Big baseplates may not fit your printer bed, so make them in parts (for example 2 plates of 4 x 3 cells).
- Gridfinity is an open-source system created by Zack Freedman. This add-on is an independent tool that follows the published dimensions.
