Layerify
Which Blender versions and systems does it work with? Does it work on Mac?
Blender 4.2 LTS to 5.2, on Windows x64, Linux x64 and macOS 11+ on Apple Silicon. Intel Macs work with Blender 4.2 to 4.5 (Blender 5 no longer runs on Intel Macs). The macOS builds pass the automated tests but haven't been tested thoroughly on a real Mac yet: if anything misbehaves, message me and I'll fix it. Download the zip for your system and install it via Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions > Install from Disk.
How do I start?
Open an image in the Image Editor, then click Edit with Layerify in the Sidebar (N) > Layerify tab. Press ? (or F1) for a searchable list of every shortcut.
Does it paint on the 3D model?
No. Layerify edits images in the Image Editor, in 2D, like Photoshop. The model shows every change as you make it, so you can edit with the viewport beside you. To paint on the 3D surface itself, use Blender's Texture Paint; both work on the same image.
Does it change my original image? Can I share the .blend with someone who doesn't have the add-on?
Your image file changes only when you Apply. While you edit, the image in Blender follows your edits so your model updates; Apply then writes the result into the image, its file on disk, or packed into the .blend. After Apply it's an ordinary image, so the scene looks and renders the same without Layerify (render farms included). Only editing the layers needs the add-on.
Where are my layers saved?
In a PSD, like in Photoshop. Save (Ctrl+S over the image, or Alt+S if you keep Ctrl+S for saving the .blend: you choose on the welcome screen or in the add-on's Preferences) writes them to a PSD; the first time it asks where, beside the image as .psd by default. Save As and Save a Copy are there too. If the image is itself a .psd, its own layers open and save back into it. Layers you haven't saved yet aren't dropped silently: when you save the .blend or quit, Layerify lists them and offers to save them.
Can I open my layers in Photoshop, Krita or Photopea?
Yes. The layers are a normal PSD: open it in Photoshop, Krita, Photopea, Affinity and others, and open their PSDs in Layerify. Layers, groups, masks, blend modes, adjustment and fill layers, text, shapes, layer styles and smart filters are kept. If the PSD you're editing is saved by another program meanwhile, Layerify offers to reload it.
Is it fast enough for 4K and 8K textures?
Yes. It was built and tested on 8K images: painting, filters and transforms preview on screen at once, and saving and updating the image run in the background.
Can I use my Photoshop brushes and a pen tablet?
Yes. In the Brush panel, Import .abr adds Photoshop brush files to a library you can use in every project. Pen tablets work, with pressure for size, opacity and flow.
How do I report a bug or ask for a feature?
Message me here on Superhive or on Discord: peakz9155. In Layerify, the help sheet (?) has Copy Support Info: paste it into your message, with what you did and what happened.
