First off, I apologize that this review was translated using a translation site since my English isn't great.

I was struggling immensely with the transition from Maya to Blender when I came across this addon.
I haven't fully mastered it yet, but it's made working with Blender enjoyable again.
It's packed with various features, and I'm learning more every day through the help documentation and YouTube videos.

This addon contains so many features, each one makes me want to try it out!
It's immediately obvious that an enormous amount of time and effort went into its development.
    Then came the subscription model.
I was surprised, but the pricing is so reasonable that my surprise turned to relief.
    It's almost too cheap.

Before directing anger at the subscription model itself, I hope people will calmly consider how user-friendly this pricing is.
Free updates and feature additions simply aren't possible unless someone sacrifices something.
I believe this addon is different from something distributed purely as a hobby.

This might not be the place for a review of the addon itself, but reading the reviews made me sad, so I felt compelled to write this.

Please, I hope you'll calmly reconsider.
I am one person who sincerely hopes the development of this wonderful addon continues for a long time.

Also, I hope the developer isn't feeling hurt.
Thank you for this wonderful addon.

Machin3tools, like the rest of this author's addons, is full of well thought out and insanely helpful tweaks to Blender that will change your workflow and make you a much faster and more efficient modeler. It is one of my top 3 Blender addons.

Speaking of my top 3 addons, all of them have paid updates and I'm personally thrilled with this. Why? Because it means those addons keep getting new features and functionality regularly and it means they stay compatible with the latest version of Blender. No one can afford to work for free. My addon folder is littered with once-great addons with "free" updates that the authors no longer develop. Heck, many of them that promised free updates never saw even a single update. I love knowing that Machin3tools will be there for me year after year.

If paying a few bucks for a year's worth of updates upsets you, check the mirror. You might be a leech.

Once you get used to this addon the vanilla blender becomes a bit clunky. I don't think $4 for yearly updates is expensive, i mean, considering the time it saves, its pretty cheap in fact. Keep going Bro

I own many common hard-surface add-ons (all of the Machine3 add-ons, Boxcutter, HardOps, Cablerator, et al). Between them all, this is definitely the one with the features I use most during a session and it's easily worth the $20. So many wonderful, time-saving, QoF tools. While I don't love paying monthly/yearly for digital services, I don't mind when I get to own the product I'm paying for. There's a big difference between charging a subscription for something the customer never owns, compared to paying for optional updates that you get to own forever if/when you want to stop updating. So, I'm okay with these changes. $4 per year (33 cents per month) is really not that much (especially after fees and taxes).

The only note I would have for the developer (as an artist who also works in marketing) is this: try to be less defensive in your communications with customers. I get you're frustrated and afraid of having to give up on developing this add-on if you can't financially justify the time it requires to continue pushing updates, developing new features, and fixing bugs. That must feel scary and I genuinely feel for you as someone who is considering a career change for a similar reason. I also know that these platforms take a massive cut of your revenue and there are only so many new customers you can acquire before you hit market saturation. So, I do have sympathy for you, but being defensive is not very effective as a call to action. It might help to have a friend or someone punch up your public-facing messages to create a separation between your frustrations and fears from your paying customers. It's totally reasonable to be frustrated and scared that you might have to give this up if the money isn't there to justify it, but it's not going to convert anyone that wasn't already willing to pay.

It would be great if we all lived in an economy that allowed people to have their basic needs met so they could spend their spare time providing free services and products to communities, but we don't. Open-source projects are awesome, but they only live as long as someone is supporting them. Personally, I'd much rather pay $4 for a year of updates if it prevents my favorite add-on from getting ghosted by the developer.

Don't waste your breath preemptively addressing expected backlash. It's a recipe for mixed messages. When in doubt, keep it short, sweet, and simple. Just explain that the pricing is changing. Updates are optional and perpetual, and thank people for their continued support. Doing anything else just risks making paying customers feel like you're being antagonistic toward them as well.

I hope this change makes this add-on financially sustainable, because it's my favorite and I use it every session. (I also love your other add-ons, too). Thanks for your work and I hope this message is received in the friendly, supportive manner it is intended! <3

Thanks for taking the time to share this. Wise words.

I guess it's difficult, when you pure your heart and soul into something, release it - first for free, then when that fails, put in extra effort to make it still affordable and cheap, but in return you receive hateful comments, harassment and and active measures to hurt your business and ability to make a liking. Luckily only by tiny minority.

Thanks for your support, much appreciated.

Must have addition for me with decalmachine and mech machine already owned. Love the customisation options, the docs are amazing, and even video resources are available. Stellar support, and I need to mention that this deserves fair compensation as it really continuously evolves. 5/5 would buy again!

MACHIN3tools 100% worth it. I don't particularly like the update about the pricing (updating anyway, hehe), paying for a new version (yearly updates) is something that those who can't afford it will not like, but as a matter of facts Blender is updating really quickly, and it's something a solo Dev can't keep up for free (even just api changes), nor as a single purchase (aka free updates). You can still download the last available version you got (as per paid update), so, can't really complain as you paid for the version that was available at purchase, and new updates are never guaranteed anyway (unless, like MACHIN3, the creator is active). This add-on is compact and full of features, and at surface might look almost just like a pie menu with Blender shortcuts, but it's not, you could compare it to an iceberg. To anyone reading this, if you find that the set of tools this add-on has, fits you, and will come handy for you, then go for it. When I started my Blender journey, MACHIN3 add-ons were the first thing I looked at :) , and I'm grateful for it :D

This is a very helpful add-on, and the support is amazing. I also respect the new policy of offering one year of free updates — it's totally understandable for an add-on in this category, as it always needs updates and often comes with smart new ideas! And don't forget the good Support!

For the price, it’s an excellent add-on even considering the $4 per year for updates, which helps support ongoing development. The developer is highly responsive, offering direct support and regularly rolling out new features. There is also a really nice documentation work and tutorials for this as for the other add-ons he offer.
    Nice work bro.
