Neon Rain City Kit

RFKits in Urban

A modular kit for a rain-soaked neon district of a present-day Asian city: 1970s board-formed concrete towers that their tenants have retrofitted for fifty years with AC units, cages, racks, cables and signs, and the wet streets at their feet. 136 pieces snap on a 0.5 m grid, a 4.0 m bay and a 4.0 m storey (the shop podium 5 m), so a facade bay, a corner column, a parapet and a sign bracket all line up without nudging.

What is in it

  • Towers, ready to place: point blocks with a helipad, an antenna farm or a rooftop billboard; slab blocks; a stepped tower; L-plan blocks of two wings; market halls of lit shops under a steel canopy with flats over them; car-park decks with a block on top; low blocks whose roofs their tenants have built over with sheds, tanks and laundry. Each has a shaft of its own (open galleries, ribbon windows, deep fins, punched windows or a curtain-wall stretch) in its own concrete or brown tile, its own tenants, signs, clutter and roof; the lower floors carry the businesses' signs while the flats above stay plain. The car parks have cars and ramps inside.
  • Modules to build towers of your own: window bays (bare, with AC units, a grille, a cage or a rack), caged balconies, bricked-up bays, sign bays, curtain wall, podium shop bays with their lit interiors and fascias, service bays, corner columns, parapets and roof slabs.
  • Signs: blade signs, box signs, framed lit panels, sign columns stacked floor by floor, round signs, arrows, lanterns, LED strips and frames, wall and roof letters in neon, in Latin capitals and in an invented script of the city's own; some dead, sagging or half lit. Billboards on steel frames, on a roof or a wall, with three poster designs.
  • Facade clutter: air-conditioner units of five makes (fan wells, guards, louvred sides, brackets, pipes, hoses), AC racks, window cages and grilles, pipe runs, cable bundles, dishes, vents, laundry poles, awnings, fire escapes, pots, a camera, a duct riser.
  • Rooftop: condensers, water tanks, masts and a lattice mast with warning lights, a plant room, rooftop shanties.
  • Street: wet road tiles (plain, lane lines, a crossing), pavement tiles with kerbs, sodium street lamps, bollards, utility poles hung with cables, a manhole, barriers. Close-up props made to hold up at 2-3 m: a drinks and a snack vending machine (lit tiers of cans and bottles, spiral coils of snacks, buttons, coin and card panels, a recycling bin), a yatai food cart (counter and stools, pots, a noren, red paper lanterns, a menu board, crates, a gas bottle), and eight parked vehicles of the city's types: kei vans, a compact hatch, saloons, a boxy two-tone taxi, a kei truck and a cab-over delivery van, with pressed body lines, wheels, lamps and trim, and tinted see-through glass over seats, a dashboard and a steering wheel.

Materials

72 procedural materials in the .blend: board-formed, precast, painted and block concrete in several tones, brown facing tile, roof membrane, painted, galvanised and teal steel, aluminium, AC casings, rubber, window glass with lit rooms behind it, shop glass over the city's own shops (a convenience store, a ramen bar, an arcade, a pharmacy, a bar), curtain glass, neon in cyan, magenta and amber, lit sign panels, the billboards' posters, car paint, wet asphalt and paving. They weather with rain runs and soot, and read at any scale with no texture repeats to hide. The neon, signs and billboards always glow; the windows and lamps light up with one switch for the night shots.

Technical

Real-world scale in metres, Z up, transforms applied, one object per piece with its pivot on the grid, consistent names. 3,746,852 triangles across the kit. Each format is its own download, complete on its own: .blend. The .blend opens as an Asset Browser library in Blender 5.2 or later. The gallery images are Cycles renders of the kit.

How it was made

Designed by a human, implemented with the help of AI: every piece is built by procedural Python scripts in Blender, written with AI assistance. No AI-generated models, images or textures. The designs are original.
