Render Bender — Compositing, Colour & Camera Effects
First open Render Finishing > Denoise and switch its enable checkbox off while adjusting your look. Denoising can add substantial processing to each compositor update; collapsing the controls does not disable it. Set colour, atmosphere and effects first, then enable Denoise last if needed and inspect the finished image.
If updates remain slow, work at a lower resolution, enable only needed effects, check denoising in Volume or Transmission Water, and review Blender’s Cycles/compositor device settings. Factory presets leave Denoise off.
No. Controls that use current render data, such as colour grading and many effect-strength adjustments, can update in the compositor. Changes to camera, geometry, materials, lighting, frame, resolution or required passes need a fresh scene render with F12.
Some effects also use separate captures. Refresh the relevant Mist, Edgewear, Cavities, water or sun capture when its source changes or the panel reports it is outdated. F12 and a section capture are different steps; if both the scene render and a capture are stale, refresh both.
Mist is based on distance from the active camera. Under Mist > Camera Distance, Start sets where mist begins and Fade Distance sets the additional distance over which it reaches full density. Changing either requires Update Mist Capture. Auto Fit Scene fits the range and renders a new capture for you.
Once the capture is current, Density, Pull Mist Back, Colour and Softness adjust its appearance without another distance capture. Refresh after camera, geometry, frame or resolution changes. If mist covers too much foreground, check the range and try Pull Mist Back before increasing Density.
Complete Set Up & Open Compositor and render the scene with F12. Choose Final Render, enable the section you are adjusting, and check that the preview is not showing None, an isolated pass or a mask. Selecting a preset only highlights it; click Load to apply it.
Read the section’s status message for missing passes or captures. If connections stopped updating after editing nodes, save a copy and use Repair Render Bender.
Check the source data as well as the strength. Emission needs rendered emissive pixels. Volume adjusts existing rendered volume lighting. Transmission Water needs transmissive surfaces, the correct Water Target Collection and current passes. Sun Object & Camera VFX needs its source object and sun mask.
Loading a preset does not create lights, water materials, volume geometry or missing passes. Enable the effect, assign any required target and follow its capture/status instructions before judging the result.
Set up the look, enter a name and use Create in Global Presets or the relevant section. Hover the action icons to identify them. Save replaces the selected preset, while Load applies it.
Global presets combine several sections; section presets adjust only their own section. Section presets live with the .blend, while global presets are stored in this computer’s Blender configuration. Export a JSON backup to keep a portable copy.
In the Compositor’s Render Bender sidebar, open Global Presets and click Export. Choose a folder and save the .json file. The bundle includes the current look, editable curves, global presets and the current scene’s section presets.
On the destination, enable Render Bender, click Import and select that file. Then select the imported preset and click Load. Presets contain settings, not models, textures, passes or captured masks. Render your destination scene and reassign targets or refresh captures as needed.
Presets are starting points, and their result depends on your lighting, materials, exposure and scene scale. They do not carry scene masks or source objects. Some full global looks also clear the Sun Object and Water Collection assignments.
Load the global look first, then assign your scene’s targets and refresh the required captures. Adjust strengths to suit the image. If the factory list is empty, use Refresh Presets beside Global Presets.
Choose Final Render, turn off the split comparison, restore the desired effects and check individual Special Effects comparison choices. Enable final Denoise if needed and wait for processing to finish.
In an Image Editor, select Viewer Node, then choose Image > Save As to export the current compositor image. Open the saved file to check it. Save your .blend separately; saving the project alone does not export an image or video.
Captures depend on the scene, camera, frame and resolution. Regenerate an outdated capture and use its mask preview to check coverage. Edgewear and Cavities require their own captures; one still mask should not be assumed valid for every animation frame.
Before moving a project, click Pack Render Bender Masks and save the .blend. Include other scene assets separately. Render again after reopening: Render Result is not a portable saved set of passes.

For troubleshooting, include your Blender and Render Bender versions, the effect section, a screenshot of its controls and status message, what you changed, and whether you rendered the scene or refreshed its capture. The download also includes a getting-started guide, README.txt, PRESET_GUIDE.txt and version notes.
The download contains the installer, helper modules, factory presets and getting-started guide. Example scenes, models and textures pictured in the artwork are not included. Use Blender 5.2 with Cycles for the full render-pass workflow.
