A backup .blend is created next to your project file before any destructive optimization runs. Check the panel/log for the exact filename after each run.

A backup is created automatically before texture downscaling or geometry instancing run. Still — this is beta software, so keep your own backup too, and review what Scan Scene flags before running optimizers on a file you care about.
