Sceneassist — Composition Coach For Blender (Camera, Lighting, Balance)

Skava in Rendering

SceneAssist — Composition Coach for Blender

Rule-of-thirds, golden ratio, lighting setups, optional AI critique. Get the composition right before you render.

Why SceneAssist

You can spend an hour iterating on a render only to find the subject is off-centre, the key light flattens the face, and the colour balance is sliding cold. SceneAssist scores your scene against the rules pros use, suggests fixes, and — only if you switch it on — asks a language model running on your own computer for a natural-language critique. Every other tool works offline.

Features

  • Composition overlays — rule of thirds, golden ratio, leading lines, diagonal, symmetry, centre
  • Balance analysis — visual weight, colour temperature, depth
  • Lighting suggestions for 7 moods (dramatic / soft / horror / natural / studio / product / cinematic)
  • Camera placement suggestions based on scene bounding box + subject
  • Optional AI advisor, off by default — built-in rule-based critique, or a natural-language critique from a local LLM running on your own computer (Ollama, LM Studio). Left off, its operator is never registered and nothing here can reach a network (details below)
  • Rule-based advisor — works fully offline, no setup
  • Thumbnail preview render for suggested angles

Optional AI advisor — this computer only

  • Off by default. Composition, balance, camera, lighting and thumbnail tools work fully offline: no account, no internet.
  • Rule-Based (offline): built-in advice, nothing is sent anywhere.
  • Local LLM (this computer only): a language model server running on your own machine — Ollama (http://localhost:11434/v1, the default) or LM Studio (http://localhost:1234/v1). No account and no key.
  • Only localhost is accepted. The address must be localhost, 127.0.0.1 or ::1; any other address is refused with an error before anything is sent. The name is checked again after it is resolved, so nothing can be routed off your machine.
  • When you click Get AI Advice with Local LLM, SceneAssist sends a text summary of the scene to the local server: names of visible mesh objects with their positions, sizes and on-screen placement; camera position, rotation and focal length; light names, type, power, colour and position. No images, files, materials or geometry. Before the first request a dialog shows exactly this and the local address — nothing is sent until you press Send.

Compatibility

  • Blender: 4.2 LTS and later, tested on 4.2, 5.1 and 5.2
  • OS: Windows / macOS / Linux
  • AI (optional): a local LLM server on the same computer — Ollama or LM Studio
